Mecerdes Matter: A retrospective Exhibition

This exhibition shows the work Mercedes Matter an abstract painter that was born in 1913 and died in 2001.  In this exhibition the public is able to see how her paintings became more and more abstract the older and the more experience she gained in her life. A lot of  the painting we saw were about a kitchen table with fruits on them but as Matter got older the same painting that she recreate over and over became more and more abstract the last one we saw it was almost impossible to recognize the table and the types of fruits. The first painting i saw was the one i like most, it was about a trip where she saw a sea port, the colors Matter used to represent each element were not the colors that we normally choose for example she had pink and yellow clouds, this is what caught my attention. The tour guide told us a little background about abstract art. She said that with the invention of the Photographic Camera in the nineteenth century artists did not want to paint the reality we see anymore because a camera could do that. She said that as scientists started discovering that things are made of atoms, artists wanted to see and show the world from a different perspective. Also she taught us that when you see art you should always ask yourself what is the artist trying to say.
