On October 22, 2009, I attended Sigma Alpha Delta’s debate on gay marriage. I think it was a great idea for a group in the school to hold such an event to discuss such a controversial topic. With the laws being passed and debated and questions being asked it was a brilliant idea and turned out to be a great debate. We heard a few speakers. I was a bit late and most of what I heard was against gay marriage. There was this one speaker; he was a priest, telling us the Catholic Church’s idea on gay marriage. He seemed a bit, feminine to me but he was against gay marriage because of the bible but he was very respectful towards the gay community. In fact, he claimed that the Catholic Church could/would accept it if the law accepted gay civil unions.
There was a question and answer portion in which people were able to get more information to base their vote on. Yes, at the end, everyone gave in a ballot for gay marriage or traditional marriage. It was a difficult decision because neither side convinced me completely but I voted. I look forward to their next event.
