I was not able to attend a few of the earlier art workshops at Baruch because they conflicted with my schedule, and when i looked for other art workshops that may take place in the near future; there were none left. Since I was unable to attend an art workshop to fulfill my requirements for Freshman Seminar, I felt that it was appropriate to substitute the Ad-Hoc major Workshop as an “Arts at Baruch” Workshop. The workshop was very informational and i learnt a lot about the Ad Hoc major if i were to pursue it in the future. I also learnt that it is a difficult process as it requires a thought out application and creativity. The Weissman arts and Sciences Ad Hoc Major is an artistic option for students who feel that the majors at Baruch do not match their future educational goals. With the Ad Hoc major, students have the opportunity to create their own major by combining courses from two or more departments into their individualized field of study. Ad Hoc Majors have a focus in Liberal Arts because there is no Ad Hoc major within the Business School, or the School of Public Affairs. Proposing an Ad-Hoc major is a very artistic task as one must first combine courses to create a major. Then he/she must explain how the courses he/she selected create a unique and integrated major that could not have been achieved by an existing Baruch major. Thus, creating an Ad-Hoc major is best for creative and artistic students who feel that they can create a major that fits them best by combing certain courses.
