This lecture was given by multiple professors. It talked about Sotomayor and the boundaries that she has pushed as a Latina woman. Sotomayor did not grow up wealthy but had big dreams about becoming a Supreme Court Justice. Because of her great confidence and determination, Sotomayor was able to gain the support of the public and become a Supreme Court Justice. Some professors were critical about how people often refer to Sotomayor as a “motherly figure” because some people cannot accept women in power. I agree with this statement. Sotomayor is not even a mother and yet people refer to her as “motherly” because they are unable to accept a powerful woman. The lecture was surprisingly very interesting and all speakers made strong arguments. From this workshop, I learned that there are some amazing history professors at this school. The ones who spoke with the greatest passion caught my attention. It is interesting to see how different professors interpret different people. This workshop did not take me out of my comfort zone because I really do enjoy politics so this was nothing new for me. I would recommend this workshop to other students because it is interesting to look at different professors views. It’s also a workshop about learning without the stress of tests.
