Arts @ Baruch- The Nature of Landscape of Photography 10/13/09

I thought this workshop would be one of the more boring ones, but I was wrong. I thought we’d just be walking aroung staring at pictures and listening to some old lady talk. The truth is the photos in the art exhibit were beautiful, and doing brief analyzations of them were cool too. We given a brief look into the backround of the photographers; which helped us to understand their pictures a little more. One photo that stood out the most to me was For “Nudes in the City” by Lucien Clergue. The display was on landscape, but Clergue used the bodies(lower butt area) of four naked people to display lanscape. From far, you might have thought you were looking at sand dunes on a beach. As you draw nearer you realize that it is the butt and legs of naked people. I think that photo was very creative and also found it interesting that Clergue used the human body to display lanscape instead of actually just photographing sand dunes on a beach. The other photos in the gallery were also beautiful; some exotic and some more rural. It shows the extreme diversity that landscape can have. I highly doubt I would have gone to this exhibit if I didnt have to, but Im glad i did; twice actually because we later went with my english class but it was cool.
