Freshman Reception

This was the first workshop that I, and I’m sure many other freshmen attended, and needless to say, I was very dissapointed. There was a lot of hype about the workshop, with us getting e-mails and even a letter in the mail about it, even promising us food if we came. The day of the workshop, there were hundreds of freshmen crowded around the escalators and the room it was supposed to be held. For a good twenty minutes, nothing happened, just the freshmen being very anxious to get into the room and to talk to the advisors. Some freshmen did get in, but the vast majority did not.

Then, they ushered us all into small rooms, fumbling over explanations and excuses as to why they didn’t have enough room or assistants to hold all of us. I just find that it was poor planning on their part — I understand that there was no way they could’ve housed such a large number of students, but they at least could’ve had different blocks go in on different dates or at different times. I learned nothing at all, and while I got my signature to signify that I have been at the event, I walk away from it with no new knowledge.
