the nature of landscape of photography; october 13, 2009

This workshop was part of our english 2100 class, and we were supposed to tour the Sadley Mischkin gallery. The gallery featured an exhibit on landscape photography, featuring pieces of nearly every imaginable terrain — from Stonehedge to the Alps. My favorite piece were the four nudes, just because it showed that landscape didn’t just extend to geographic regions, but also, to people. It was very informative — a man described various forms of photography to us, and taught us how to make a photograph blue by other means than Adobe Photoshop — “Just soak it in hydrogen peroxide!”

There was also the gallery curator, who showed us around, explaining each piece and what was so significant about it.

Truthfully, I only expected to walk around the gallery and not do much else, but I’m glad that the sessions turned out to be so informative. I’m definitely looking forward to another gallery exhibit later on.
