Community, Global Awareness: Freshman Reception 09/17/09

The Freshman Reception was the first workshop that I attended. It was crowded — there were way too many people trying to fit into a relatively small set of offices. I noticed that some people were able to sit down with counselors and discuss school and the like, but unfortunately I was unable to stick around long enough to get the opportunity. I think there was a lot of confusion regarding the attendance requirement; by telling us that, virtually every freshman tried to crowd their way in to get the sheet signed. Hopefully for next year (if they do this workshop thing again), they will re-think the way this workshop is set up and advertised. I was relatively disappointed but frankly wasn’t really looking forward to the information they were presenting either way. I did manage to get a cookie at the end of the day. As of yet, this has been my least favorite workshop experience — at least I came away with some feeling for how many people really wanted to get into these things.
