Career Exploration- Pursuing Your Passion- 11/03/09

This workshop helped me in many ways. Not only did it categorize the majors and explained a few careers that went along with specific majors, but it stressed that not only a degree was needed but a passion to work in the field you chose. I have never truly known what field of business I wanted to pursue or what things I was looking for in a job but by attending this workshop it gave me a lot more options than I had known before. The Starr Career Center organized this workshop to do just that, it connected all the things necessary to know what type of future you are looking into such as personality traits and motivation. It also helped the students realize that there are so many other possibilities in the work field other than what you majored in. One of the examples shown was Eva Longoria who majored in kinesiology but went off to be a famous actress. Although this is a far off case, there are many like this.  One of the more helpful part of the workshop was when they used personality traits and interest  to figure out what kind of job you would be most happy in. I figured that I may have to look more into social jobs and it gave me a list of possible choices. Overall this workshop was great at what it was meant to do. The presenter gave us vital information and explained majors and careers in a simple way. The Starr Center seems to be a great place to go and see what available opportunities there are for jobs and internships here at Baruch.
