Beach Clean-Up

Category: Global Awareness
Date: 9/19/09, 10:00AM – 12:00 PM

This workshop dealt mainly with how humans have affected the environment. During the workshop, we picked up trash that people dropped on the beach, but also keep a record of how much trash was collected. This workshop made me aware of how much trash was at the beach (mostly glass, bottle caps. straws, and cigarette buds). Normally, i would not have much interest in environmental problems, but i wanted to see how much trash was at the beach that most New Yorker go to every year.
Personally, i would recommend this workshop to everybody, but specifically to those who cares for the environment or who would major in subjects related to environmental protection.

One Response to Beach Clean-Up

  1. The opportunity to help the environment by picking up trash and recording findings was very productive. We found about 50+ pieces of shattered glass and 90+ cigarette butts amongst other things in a time span of 2 hours. Can you believe how much human trash is out there? People go to the beach often, to tan, swim, play sports, to just have fun and relax. Who wants to step on garbage?!?

I guess a message to all is that eveyone should be aware about littering. It’s not cool to have surprises under your feet.
