Today while walking to work I saw this grandma with her stroller and this two year old kid. While I was walking by the grandma started screaming frantically. Of course I was confused as first until I saw the kid tensing up with a face that looked as if he was choking. The kid apparently has a seizure and stopped breathing. So I rushed over (because I’m CPR certified) and was about to help the kid. But a older man jumped in front of me and started administering CPR to the kid. I thought he looked like he knew what he was doing well at least better than what I could of done so I let him do his thing. So I did the next available action and called the ambulance. Thank god i was able to because the other people didn’t know the neighborhood well and didn’t know where we were located. So I gave the operator specific instructions to the scene.
Of course by this time I was very late for work but I couldn’t leave the kid not knowing how he would turn out. After about 10 minutes the ambulance came and picked up the kid. I waved good bye to the man and the grandma and said I had to go to work.
It felt so good being able to help out a person in need and well helped save a person’s life.
Of course I want to tell everyone bout this but hah it just felt like another day in my life.
wow you’re such a nice person. I know how you feel because I feel the same way when I help out people. You are also brave cause many times I’ve been through those kinds of situations and I would just freeze, unable to do anything. For example, I witnessed a cab hitting a delivery guy on his bike. At that point I just froze and stared at the accident; I was too shocked to do anything. Fortunately the guy didn’t hurt himself, he just fell off his bike and landed on the cab. 🙂
too bad the kid will probably never see me again and probably will never remember me
haha thanks. It was amazing the way i felt when i walked by the same street (after comming home from work) and one of the guys who watched told me the kid was in a good condition and was safe. Made me glad.
I am so proud of you! When this sort of thing happens, it just makes people realize that there are still those that are caring and helpful out there. I have yet to help people in that extreme, but what makes me happy is when I am able to give advice and guidance. Maybe that’s why I’m a peer mentor.
Gosh, I have awesome kids!
I know how you feel. Even as little as helping a mother carrying the baby stroller up the subway stairs can make me feel the way u felt. Travelling for the 5th year now between school and home, I’ve managed to help over five mothers up or down the subway stairs. It just feels good after you help them.
