Our 44th President has won the Nobel Peace Prize Award 2009.  Apparently it was unanimous vote fromt he committee that Obama deserved this award.  I agree he is bring up changes, but he hasn’t really done anything yet. I’m not saying he doesnt deserve this award, but more like he shouldn’t be getting it so early in office.  I chuckled when I read this quote: “You have to remember that the world has been in a pretty dangerous phase,” Jagland said. “And anybody who can contribute to getting the world out of this situation deserves a Nobel Peace Prize.” (I want a Nobel Peace Prize too =]) By giving him this award, I feel it will apply pressure for him to do act on the promises he made.

I definitely agree with you statements lennox. There definitely has been a great deal of positive CHANGE after president Obama has been elected. I am neither for nor against Obama for receiving the nobel peace prize because he does deserve it, but the thing is may it be a little too soon. Afterall, he didn’t actually do any actual thing. They were mostly propositions.

Let’s be honest, President Obama should have gotten an award for winning the election. Unfortunately, he’ll just have to settle for this. Anyone who says that he didn’t deserve the award hould look outside of the United States. Other countries actually WANT to deal with us again. The celebration in Japan the night he won rivaled the one in the US. The psychological effects on the world the election of Barack Obama had should not be underestimated. There arent too many times in history where the world was joyous in unison like that. The people who are disappointed in what Mr. Obama has done might have had unrealistic expectations of him. He is still just a man and he hardly has the power to do whatever he wants.

This reminds me of success as a form of victory. A lot of people say what Wu has said, thats Obama hast just made speeches but no actions. However, I think it shouldn’t be about the outcome, but the impact, and Obama has had a huge impact on American society and government. The peace prize is said to be awarded to someone who “…shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”. Though Obama hasn’t guaranteed or reached most of his said goals, he has tried to promote unionization and peace, additionally, he represents the change of the face of America.

I think he doesn’t deserve the award. All he did was make speeches. As far as I know, he didn’t take any action that made the world a better place, outside of his duties. If he gets the award eventually, it should be after he has successfully brought change (for the better of the world).
