Freshman Reception

The first workshop that I went to was the freshman reception and it was absolute disaster. There was a lot of students standing around on the 5th floor and when we finally got into the room we got a folder with core curriculum related stuff and what we need for graduation. There was also a huge line inside the room where food was being offered but I didn’t want to wait so I left afterward. This was a terrible start that I would have never expected. They obviously didn’t prepare for it and students were all grumbling here and there. It was chaotic and there is no experience I can take away from this.

Arts at Baruch

Me and a few friends went to the Mishkin Gallery for the Arts at Baruch workshop. I was shocked to see such a small gallery. It was rather quick tour and the photographs were very unique. I saw photographs from Tom Baril, Joel Meyerowitz, Eliot Porter and Jill Mathis. Each focused on different things. For example some focused on landscapes and nature while others were abstract light and blends mixed in. I had to attend it again with the english teacher the next day and it was good to see the photographs again.

Career Fair-Career Exploration

I went to the career fair on September 25 so see what companies were at Baruch and ask them a few questions. There certainly was a lot of companies but they were all looking for juniors and seniors. There was only one company that offered interviews to all the students at Baruch but they didn’t offer pay so no one was on their line. The representatives from each company was very cordial and answered all of my questions regarding their company and their respective fields. They told me that if I was interested in their company I should come back every career fair to talk to them and that they will remember you. Showing interest means a lot to me therefore when you are a junior or senior your chances of being accepted is much higher. Workshop was just as I expected where there was a lot of companies but mostly everyone was on the same lines. Since Baruch is a business school everyone was on the GE Capital, Credit Suisse , Wells Fargo , TD bank, FDIC and the IRS. It was a decent experience not that special but I thought it was a good start for me as a freshman to see what the school was able to offer me.
