I read in The Ticker that Zicklin students weren’t allowed to double major. What’s up with that? The article says that Zicklin doesn’t actually have a reason for this, is that true? I think it’s unfair that we’re not allowed to double major…

Bravo show in Theatre
The Intro to Theatre class watched a wonderful performance by the Natioal Theatre of the Deaf. The stage props were very colorful and simple- some boexes, umbrellas and two backgrouds. It’s amazing that the girls on stage can sign-language the alphabets faster than a fellow classmate can recite them. Some funny moments during the show:
The friend to my right said jokingly: “I gotta get my PSP. The play is too happy, I need to play a depressing game.”
Then someone brought up the question, how do deaf people communicate during sex? Brilliant.
The actresses were innovative in acting on the spot and did a great job taking questions from the crowd. The play itself sends a positive messege.
There are people les fortunate than us because of their disabilities, but it’s admirable that they can accomplish just as much as any average person- if not more. Most of the times, it’s not sheer genius but a heart of gold that takes us far in life.
Read Raymond’s post. He says it’s a great idea. :P
I think our LC needs to get to know each other more. Compared to all the other blocks, we all don’t communicate as much and we’re all in our own separate little groups. A lot of other people in other LCs are super duper close… I think we should really go out and watch a movie or something to get to know each other, AS RAYMOND SAYS.
Pianos
Does anyone know of a piano room or something in Baruch? I saw one in Mason Hall but i have no clue if people can play on that. I totally want to see George and Alan play together =)
Movies anyone?
I think we should all go to the movies one day, and no, i’m not talking about “Capitalism, a Love Story.” Out of school activity, like a social gathering. It doesn’t have to be movies, it could be anything else. It should be on a friday or a weekend, as those are our common days off. Is anyone up for it? You can invite friends also.
EDIT: No Monica, there is one showing this friday at 19th street and broadway, very close to school this friday. The times are 10:30 AM, 12:45 PM, 3:00 PM, 5:15PM 7:45 PM 10:15 PM. Let me know guysssss.
Know any ways to get more cash?
Beyond just getting a job,
is there anyway you can
provide services or deliver value
in exchange for money?
nothing illegal, nothing too time consuming, and nothing out of reach
for an ordinary freshman.

A horrible case of insomnia

Career Day
I went to Career day on September 25th and was not surprised that it was mostly for the upperclassmen. Even though there were not many opportunities for freshman such as myself, I found the experience enlightening. I talked to some representatives of financial institues such as TD, credit suisse and Wells Fargo, which gave me an impression of what these potential employers were looking for. Most of the bigger finance corporations had huge lines that I didn’t bother to wait on, since I knew that they were looking for employees coming right out of college and not freshman interns. Overall it was not such a bag experience, except that I had to wear an oversized used suit in order to get in.
Arts at Baruch
On 10/6 I was given a touro f the art exhibit at Mason. I did not understand most of the pieces that were centered around landscape because I am not an art major. Although I didn’t understand the peices, I could tell there was a lot of meaning behind each one. If you are into the arts, I would definitely give it a visit even if it is not one of the biggest galleries around.
Freshman Reception
The first workshop that I went to was the freshman reception and it was absolute disaster. There was a lot of students standing around on the 5th floor and when we finally got into the room we got a folder with core curriculum related stuff and what we need for graduation. There was also a huge line inside the room where food was being offered but I didn’t want to wait so I left afterward. This was a terrible start that I would have never expected. They obviously didn’t prepare for it and students were all grumbling here and there. It was chaotic and there is no experience I can take away from this.
