Conference with Prof. Hohl

I have not met with Professor Hohl for my outside essay. I guess he decided that those with B or above did not need the conference, although he is more than willing to hold one upon request.

For those who had conference with him, please tell us if he was helpful?

Library Workshop (ENG2100)

The class attended a workshop at the Newman Library with Librarian Lisa Elise. She introduced the CUNYPlus search, RefWorks for citation, etc.

I find sources such as the Economist, Associate Press, NY Times useful for current events. Sometimes, I use google books instead of buying the actual books if the text is available i.e. I read Waverly Jong and Partial Remembrance on google books so I didn’t have to buy the Conscious Reader.

Baruch College known for diversity

There is a pretty interesting article about Baruch that a friend sent me. But since we are freshman we got time but its never too early to study or prepare for the future. Because what you do know affects your future and where you will go.

funny

There was a father who was very proud of his three daughters. Every night he took a stroll around the house to make sure everything was all right. One night when he was doing his stroll, he could hear laughter coming from his youngest daughters room. He stood there for a while and thought about this, but reached the conclusion that he could always ask her tomorrow, instead of bothering her at this time of the night. When he reached the window of his second daughter, he could hear her crying. He thought about this too, but ultimately he decided to ask her tomorrow and continued. There were no sounds at all coming from his oldest daughters room, and he then went to bed, satisfied. The next day, when they all were gathered around the breakfast table, he said to his youngest daughter, “I heard you laughing last night, as I walked past your window. Why was that?” She answered, “Thats because you taught me to laugh when someone was making me happy.” He then asked his second daughter, “I heard you crying last night, why was that?” She answered “Thats because you taught me to cry when someone was hurting me.” He then told his oldest daughter, “I didnt hear anything from you…” She said, “Thats because you taught me not to talk with my mouth full.”

Clubs?

So does anyone know any cool clubs to join? The club fair was pretty bad in my opinion. I want a fun club that has nothing to do with anthropology, english , calculus or public administration if you know what I mean. Nothing too physically tiring either.

Database Survival

I went to the library to hear the guy talk about how the baruch database can be used. There is a lot of information that we are given for free. For example you dont have to buy the New York Times because it is all in the newspaper section of the Baruch library website. Not only that there is a lot of magazines that are also available but the only problem is that you have to know what articles you want so you have to put in a certain phrase or certain name to get results. Reuters is not offered online so the only way you can use that is by going to the library or the stock quotes location whatever they call that. The database survival thing was pretty quick so if you didnt get your academic enrichment part of your workshop signed yet this is a very easy workshop. Show up and listen.
