Student Services Fair
Tuesday, October 13, 2009
12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Multipurpose Room, NVC 1-107
The Student Services Fair, held in the multipurpose room, offered many different school programs that helped students with different aspects of college life. Rows after rows of tables were lined up. Some of the people were friendly and, with a smile, beckoned shy students forward. Some of the tables even offered free items to attract students. There were tables set up for those with learning disability, those who are interested in honors programs, those who need help with financial aid or writing. There are so many programs offered to students that one is for sure able to find the one that they need.
One of the programs that I thought was helpful was the Starr Career Development Center. The program offered help to those who do not know what to do when it comes to applying for a job and preparing for it. This program helped these people with their resumes and even held mock trials of a job interview. Another program that I found beneficial to students was the Writing Center. The Writing Center is not only for people who are weaker when it comes to writing, but also anyone who might want someone professional to read over their writing pieces and make corrections. This program allows students to make corrections before handing in a writing assignment. The Student Services Fair is helpful, especially to freshman because we do not know where such programs’ main offices were held. It gave us a chance to find out more about programs that may be much help to us throughout our years in Baruch.
