12:30 PM- 2:30 PM
Multipurpose Room, NVC 1-107
This workshop was based on learning more about Undergraduate Internships. All the students sat facing the podium, while two screens were set up for a powerpoint presentation. There was a female speaker (whose name I didn’t hear) who explained the whole internship process to us. She talked about the different types of internships there were: seasonal internships (fall, spring, summer), paid or unpaid, full-time or part-time, and college credit. I have never heard about college credit internships before so it was definitely helpful learning about it. Apparently, students at Baruch can participate in an internship for a class and get credit for it. I thought this was really cool and I hope to be able to do this sometime in the future. The speaker went on to talk about the benefits of participating in an internship and the experience that we can gain from them.
There were some discussion questions during the workshop in which we talked to partners about our expected majors and our learning objectives. We also discussed how to make resume and how the Starr Career and Development Center can assist us with that. We were all given a booklet called Undergraduate Internship Manual that provides a lot of great information. There are sample resumes and questionnaires to help us out with anything we might need.I really liked this workshop and I would recommend it to everyone to take. The presenter was very clear and informative. She kept us engaged at all times and clarified a lot of things we weren’t sure about. I definitely learned a lot. She talked about the Starr website online and how to access that. It seems like a great tool for students, and I will be using that very soon. =]
