Student Services Fair

One thing that seems to be a theme at these fairs is the disorganized and extremely overcrowded feeling you get. it seems that there is a lack of interest from like 90% of the students present and more of only caring about getting an easy freshman seminar workshop. The main hope of this kind of event is that if they pass out enough pamphlets that maybe someone will read one and learn something.

I thought it was really stupid to have the little hole punch card whose purpose was to enter you into a raffle and “make this count as a workshop” it took away a lot from the point of the event and shifted it for most of the students I saw to how fast can I get ten hole punches? instead of what types of student services are there? also the people at the booths were mostly uninformative and some of them didn’t even know about or work in the department they were representing. overall it seemed well intentioned but poorly carried out. most of the real information I received was in the form of pamphlets, and the only thing I learned was that we have a nurses office.
