Earlier this month, I went to this workshop to fulfill my required 6 workshops (unless the library tour doesn’t count as a workshop in which case I will still need one more after this). Like its name suggests, this workshop was about stress and anxiety which many college student apparently suffer from. Honestly, I thought this workshop was really useless for me. And, considering how many people were freely chatting during the speaker’s presentation, they too probably felt the same.
The speaker made everyone who attended do some activities: one involved examining a raisin which was to help us be more aware of our five senses and another was to follow instructions and be more aware of our bodies and muscles (kind of like a yoga video). Being aware of our bodies was supposed to help us reduce stress. Anyways, I found both these exercises useless.
Coming out of high school, where I had to go to 7 different classes a day 5 days a week, college is really a joke. We have only 2 or 3 classes a day, lengthy breaks in between classes, and no classes Fridays; it’s awesome. In fact, I’m still in senior-itis mode from high school. Also, the classes and work are not really stress inducing. The professors and their policies and their classes for that matter could all be better but it’s not really anything unmanageable. I personally don’t get stressed out about these things and have never gotten stressed about classes. I procrastinate and complain all the time but that’s just part of being a student. If I had to give a presentation on stress reduction, I would not give any exercises with dried fruits or anything like that. I’d keep it simple and say that although school and grades are important, in the grand scheme of things none of this really matters.
