Reservation blues quote

Hey, this is hong!  This is my first blog, and I don’t really know how to work the blogging thing yet, so I’m just writing.  Anyway, since I read Reservation Blues, I’m going to write a quote that I like best.

”  Television constantly reminded Thomas of all he never owned.” P. 70

This specific line reminded me of the Poet’s words on the 27 of August.  He had said that many of his family members chosen suicide, because of the lack of hope and broken dream.  Television and media always show the American Dream or whatnot.  While people watched the show, they gain confidence and hope, but if you are an Native-American living in the Reservation, there is no such thing as the American Dream.  All that is in front of them is hoplessness.

    Hi Hassie,

Can you be more specific on which topic you are researching? Since I read Reservation Blues three years ago, I don’t recall much as of right now. But I do remember this specific quote. Basically, living in a reservation puts a limit on what you can accomplish in life. There is no hope, no future for many of the Native-Americans. And television is one of the few median that connects the protagonist of the book to the outside world. He sees all the luxuries that people have and take for granted. He sees how big the gap between them. He sees how little he had. And he realizes how powerless he was. I hope this helps.
