Personal Enrichment Workshop

Yeeees, another workshop entry from me on the same day. What a productive night.

On Thursday I went to the workshop for “Managing Relationships in College.” I found this helpful because the presenter (speaker?? I don’t really know what to call her) spoke about how important it was to network and make friends right now in college. Who knows, these connections can lead to big things in life. It’s important to really get involved in extracurricular activities/clubs  as well, though I have yet to do that… but I’ll get to it eventually! And then she asked the audience to raise their hands if they met new people in Baruch. After that was an activity! We were supposed to introduce ourselves to 5 new people in the room and I just talked to those sitting around me, though I forgot most of their names by now. I think I remember a Sam… and an Alexandra? Yea, it’s really hard to just introduce ourselves with just our names and then move on.

Well, then the speaker wanted everyone to get up and meet people far away from where they were sitting, probably because people were already sitting next to their friends (me included, but hey! I didn’t cheat, I looked away from them. I’m such a good friend). Well all I can say is… it’s hard to memorize names. Though the most notable thing I can remember was a guy wearing a Death Note shirt, because I love Death Note! I still forgot his name though. I admit, I know I was “meeting new people” wrong. Like, instead of trying to say hi to five different people, it’s better to just meet one person and have a long conversation with. Well that’s what I think anyway. Easier said than done. It definitely takes a lot of time for me to open up to people but maybe others are just that outgoing (:

We also talked about relationships. People were supposed to get into groups of three to talk about past experiences or problems dealing with their boyfriend/girlfriend. I tend to avoid that kind of topic entirely. Others mentioned their conflicting schedules and how the couples were trying to adjust to college life (going to different colleges, etc).

But yea, it was a nice workshop. Gives me a few goals… (ex: join a club, be more outgoing, get my memory up to par)
