Sidney Gallery
The Sydney Gallery was very interesting. It had all abstract art which focus on basic geometric shapes. There were many different paintings of squares and rectangles. There was also a section of art depicting the humans. The artist shows that they were not really into human anatomy. It places a lot of emphasis on the breast of humans. Many of the artwork used white and black. However there were about 3 pieces of artwork that used bright colors such as green and yellow. There was one artwork of a fish.
I thought that this gallery had artwork that I don’t understand or don’t know how to appreciate it. I don’t understand what kind of theme the artists are trying to allude to. Overall, I did not feel enriched by this visit to the gallery.

Career workshop
A speaker came on the behalf of Starr career development. First she talked about their website. Although she struggles with technology, she showed me what the website offers. The website is updated very often and each time there is a list of jobs and internships that are available. Resumes are written in two different ways: chronological or functional. She gave me advice on how to format a resume and what should I pay attention to. During an interview, there is a difference between being aggressive and assertive. Assertive means that one is trying to sell oneself to a company. Aggressive is when one is trying to force oneself upon a company. Another piece of advice is that one must clean up their image online. With facebook and Twitter going, people are bound to check out these websites to get an impression.
Following the resume process is an interview. The keys for having successful interview is summarized by the 4ps; preparation, practice, punctuality, and post etiquette. The PAR is an acronym which stands for problem, action, and result. This method is used to describe accomplishments.
People need to dress more conservative and look professional. Overall, I thought this interview was very informing.

Enrichment Workshop
This enrichment workshop was interesting at times. I thought it was longer than it needed to be. It was unnecessary to have the panelist. I didn’t see their function at all in the whole discussion. Stan Altman, the moderator, and Charles N. Li had a very interesting discussion about reality and identity. Mr. Altman talked about how the difference between a dog’s reality and a human’s reality can result in the dog saving the human’s life. Mr. Li talked mainly about how a person can be good or evil. Identity is an indefinite thing and it changes along with culture and time. He struggled to find his own existence when he was a young child living in China. The most interesting point that was brought up was the difference in philosophy between East Asia and the West which is that people in the West are born without the question of identity. This leads to them pursing their desires. Overall, I gained some knowledge through the moderator and Mr. Li.

Monologue
In my life, I want to achieve many goals. As many of you know, I volunteered at the salvation army. It had the biggest impact on my life. I worked with second graders all day long from 8:30 in the morning to around 5:30 in the evening. I devoted so much time in this activity because I want the kids to learn something in some aspect. I dealt with an ADD kid over this summer, along with six other kids. The ADD kid troubled me because he needed a lot of attention that I couldn’t give him. He constantly would not listen to the lesson and ends up playing around. He would play around with his water bottle and bang it against the table. Sometimes when he is copying notes, he would just suddenly stop and stick his eraser in his mouth. It was hard to deal with him. I wanted to so a one on one teaching session with him but it was not possible because he wasn’t the only student. I tried my best to teach him the lesson. Although I hated teaching him because of his disorder, I also felt bad for him. I wanted him to do well and learn something. I ended copying the lesson for him so that he can concentrate on the actual classwork. That didn’t work out so well. He still needed someone to watch him and make hum work. If nobody was next to him, he would just do nothing, in e end, I had a volunteer try his best to go over the lesson with gym as I taught the class. I taught both math and English so that was two hours back to back teaching. As the program came to an end, I noticed that he had learned something in my class and I felt relieved.

There are several words to describe myself. I believe that I am a carefree and optimistic person. These characteristics derived from a quote that I was inspired by which said “Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” This quote was written by John Maxwell. From this quote, I believed that a carefree and optimistic personality would help me achieve the impossible. From that point on I became a carefree person that looked towards the positive of the situation. When I look at the positive side, nothing seems bad at all.
My three concerns at Baruch is getting the kind of education I want. My highest concern is my grades. I don’t want to be an average Baruch student, I want to do excellent in all my classes. My second concern is learning how to use my resources at Baruch efficiently. I am still new to the school so there are many things I do not know. I want to learn all the resources available to be and take advantage of them especially the academic advisers. My last concern is to learn to have a better mapped out future. I hope through my Baruch experience I will truly know how I want my future to be. At this point, I only know that I want to be an accountant.
My Baruch experience will definitely be a lot better than my high school experience. At Baruch, freedom comes with responsibility. In high school, the DOE limits the students action especially the internet. In college, I have the freedom to do what I want but I also need to be more responsible for my school work. The work load has definitely increased between high school and college but at the same time I get more time.
My first year of college will drastically change me. It will allow me to understand my own capabilities and take advantage of them. I would learn how to manage my time more efficiently. Baruch will also help me shape the path I would want to take for the next few years at Baruch.
