Sidney Museum
I anticipated much more before going to this museum with my classmates. I didn’t realize it was inside one of the Baruch administration buildings until I went. It was a small museum where the art didn’t appeal or make any sense to me. It contained much paintings that looked similar and very abstract such as just squares and lines to vague naked pictures of a woman portrayed very oddly. Many of the pictures seemed like variations of these squares and lines and these women. None of them appealed to me but it was fun to go there with classmates and seeing them make video recordings of the museum with us in it. I didn’t like having to go there because it was sort of odd going there since it didn’t really feel like a real museum with just about 20 or so paintings and its just a few of my classmates free walking around the area.

Academic Advisement Workshop
This workshop was the one that I felt was not a waste of time. However, it was hard to hear her in the beginning and some parts and I didn’t understand why she couldn’t use the microphone. I felt this workshop helped me give me a sense of direction of what to do and where to go so I know what classes I can register and should register for. I liked how she gave several options such as good options, highly recommended and high priority one. It sucks that I register on nov 23rd when its about 2 weeks later than initial registration, I hope I get an early schedule that I want. In addition to that, I hope I won’t need much help when I’m registering for classes on the 23rd because I wouldn’t want to wait 2 hours to see an adviser to know what to do.

Career Workshop Blog
Going to this career workshop I was intrigued in what they had to say. It was a an hour long workshop listening to the STARR person speak and how to make a good resume and get a good career. I felt that most of the things that she spoke would be much easier obtained if I went on the website and looked about all the things she said myself. However, the resume part was a very useful way to inform us about how to write a strong one and what a resume is for and not for. I believe the interview part was a waste of time though because most of it was common sense and it felt like after a while, she just kept reading through the power points and it became repetitive. I do give her props for maintaining such a good attitude throughout the whole presentation because a lot of people of the audience didn’t seem to be paying attention or wanted to raise their hand to help her out.

Panel Discussion Blog
In spite of the huge audience, I figured they would do a good job in making sure that they would broadcast the speeches better and make sure we were all able to hear it clearly and understand it. I was actually interested in hearing what Charles N. Li had to say when coming here and it was nothing but a big disappointment. I was unable to hear what they were talking about most of the time except for the beginning when the first guy from Baruch was speaking and introducing everyone. After that, it started going downhill, I wasn’t able to hear anything and thus I lost my interest in the discussion. It was very hard to interpret what they were trying to say the whole time and I wasn’t the only one, I hope in the future, they raise the volume or make them speak more clearly or something better than this one.

Monologue
Now that I am in college, there are certainly many different changes and important things to think about for my own future and for my own good. The college life is much different from high school. We all have to pace ourselves without anyone else helping us during the process. We must meet the deadlines and no one is there to remind us. Also, there is much more readings to do for homework where we will not be able to cover most of it in class. As for my future, I now have to think about what I really want to pursue in life in order to get the degree for it. I am unsure of what career I really want to do. At first I wanted to become an accountant because it’s a job that I can easily pursue in four years and I don’t mind doing math. However, I have been told many times it is a boring job and my uncle told me that this job is too simple that almost anyone can go learn the skills necessary to do it and become an accountant. So now I am unsure of what I really want to do after college.

So this is a picture that I found and I believe resembles me. hahas

Who do I think I am?
As for my personality, I think I am outgoing, athletic, and friendly. I try to help others whenever they need help. One of my top 3 concerns about my freshman year at Baruch College is obtaining good grades and a good GPA so that I will be off to a good start and I won’t end up regretting anything. Another concern is being able to manage my time and balancing it between work and school. Sometimes, I might not be able to get enough sleep because having to work and then going to school the next day is tough. My last concern about my freshman year is being able to learn as much as I can about the school so I won’t feel so left back in the following years to come. I want to know what to expect and stay on track to obtain the degree of my choice.
So far, I think that having breaks and so much freedom in Baruch College is the main difference from high school. I believe if there were more social events to attend to it would make my experience much difference and not having the learning community classes as well. The learning community classes is a great way to know the people within your class but sometimes it’s nice to know other people as well. I think my first year at College will have a great impact on me. It will certainly be a great chance for me to explore the college more with all the free time and to meet new people as well. I also think it will change some of my insights and views on life because I’m meeting a lot of people from different areas of NYC rather than mostly Brooklyn heads.
