Post 5- Museum
Personally, I found the trip to the Sydney Museum very pointless and meaningless. there was nothing interesting about it, not even the artwork. Half of the pieces made no sense, and I was disappointed at how few pieces there actually were, though I guess that gave the exhibition a sense of exclusivity. The only thing I liked about the museum was the fact that students and professors were the only artists displayed in the gallery. This shows that even though they may not be famous, people still have an opportunity to display their artwork. But overall, the museum was not a good experience, I am sorry to say. I think that if the pieces had some explanation to them it would have been better.

Post 4- Academic Workshop
This was BY FAR the best and most helpful workshop that we have had till date. It completely helped me change my schedule; before the workshop, I was taking theater and no science, but now I have added Physics and Eco 1001 to my schedule. It was especially helpful in the fact that the lady leading the workshop was telling us which classes are good ideas and which classes are highly recommended at out current positions. But one thing that I absolutely DID NOT like was the fact that even though she had a microphone, she refused to use it. Also, although this was the best workshop we have had so far, it was a little boring- she was a little monotonous and could have made the workshop a little more interesting. Combined with the microphone issue, I found it a little hard to focus on what she was saying. But other than that it was a very helpful event.

Post 3- STARR Career Workshop
I felt that the STARR Career Workshop was actually very interesting, despite the fact that I have used it before. The powerpoint was pretty helpful; I particularly found the slides about the different types of resumes- I didn’t know that there were different types of resumes for different types of positions. I also didn’t know that you were not supposed to wear cologne during the interview process because the interviewer might be allergic to the scent (which is odd because when I went to my interview, the woman that was interviewing me said that my cologne was fresh). But the thing that I found best was that the lady leading the workshop had an intern she named “Vuh-Vek the Tech”, I thought that was hilarious. Overall, it was good, but also a little repetitive at times.

College is a very new environment and there anew many new opportunities here. One such example is the clubs here. Something I joined was SASA, the South Asian Student Association here at Baruch. This club is directed more towards South Asians, but anyone can join. SASA holds a lot of fundraisers and events- one such event they want to hold is the multicultural show, something I hope to take part in. There will be a lot of dancing, singing, and performing of all things South Asian; I’d like to do a dance with the boys’ team. I did it for four years in high school, and I even choreographed a dance in my senior year, and I hope to continue doing that throughout college. I know that joining SASA will be an experience I’ll never forget.
Guys here is my picture I couldnt upload it 🙂
Charles Li Discussion Panel:
I thought the discussion panel was pretty interesting, though I thought that he could have elaborated more on his experiences in the Communist school. The guest speakers were interesting, especially the professor that teaches here (her name slips me) because she seems to have a similar experience to us, or at least me. I also had a little trouble associating myself with particular groups and defining myself in the beginning. Overall, the discussion was interesting, and even though some people were not paying attention, I think it turned out well.

Who Do I Think I Am?
The college experience is one which makes us students reflect on our lives, especially on who we are as people. Part of this experience also brings about changes, but part of it also brings about concerns. Different people expect different things from college, especially in a college like Baruch, where people from so many different backgrounds come together in a single community. I believe that my time here at Baruch will not be on I will regret.
Before I came here, I had no sense of self- I did not know who I was and what I wanted. But that all changed once college came around; it helped me realize that I am an individual who likes to learn and willing to accept new challenges, and what I wanted was the best of everything, no matter what that be.
It is natural to have concerns or worries when moving from one environment to another; college is no exception. Different people are worried about different things. Before coming to Baruch I was concerned about getting involved, keeping my grades up, and living on my own- these things still concern me, but not as much as before. I have learned to deal with a lot of my issues- it is all about being responsible and mature.
The transition from high school to college is a difficult one, because there are a very many differences between the two. For one thing, high school has a set day-by-day schedule, and the schedule is broken up by period- everyone goes to class at a certain time, and everyone gets out at a certain time. But in college, the schedules go by times and are set in different manners. Second of all, teachers in high school care about their students- care in the sense that they would take time out to punish the students if they were late or if they did not do their homework, but it is the exact opposite in college. Professors in college expect the students to be extremely on top of everything, something which can be extremely overwhelming.
Last, but not least, college is a place where students change, mostly for the better. There are many areas I expect to be changed in during my college experience. Some of these things include responsibility, personality, and punctuality. I hope to improve myself in all of these grounds because I feel that these three qualities are what will help me stand out from others in the community.
People always say that “college is the best time of your life.” I feel that this is true, but I also believe that college is what you make it- if you make college just a place where you keep a static personality and are there to earn high grades and not be involved, it will be a horrible experience, whereas if you get involved and hope to change yourself, it will be a wonderful experience.
