And that was my title. Anyway I’ve been a part of Baruch College for around a month and half now. This college is rather underwhelming since everywhere you look something is broken kinda like this sentence. Really I don’t feel like doing this blog but having did the previous one late and being forced to write an article kind of swayed my options.  I don’t really know what to talk about so Im just  gonna start typing my thoughts.

I hate having to commute a hour everyday going to and from school everyday.

Baseball sucks and shouldn’t be consider a sport.

There are 290 calories in a 20 fluid ounce bottle of Mountain Dew.

Fun Fact: More than ten people a year are killed by vending machines…watch out.

Chinese people invented ice cream and pasta, I don’t care if you disagree.

Being part of the 99% is fun, we get to protest whenever we want.

Batman shouldn’t be running around with a young boy while wearing spandex, it leads to questions.

Professors in college should be forced to take a public speech class before being allowed to teach, and students should be the one to grade them.

Argh listing random facts and opinions is annoying. What really am I suppose to say? College is fucking amazing despite my bitching. Alright I’m tired of speaking in front of all you. Next person please!

A Lot of Thinking to Do

The first time I walked through the doors of Baruch College was for a baseball workout last winter.  I remember walking into the Vertical Campus Building and feeling like I was in Grand Central Station.  I really wanted to come to Baruch because I want to be an Accountant, and we all know the reputation that the Zicklin School of Business has.  I also wanted to play baseball in college, and the coach was giving me that opportunity.  I hadn’t yet gotten my acceptance letter back yet, and I thought to myself is this was what I really wanted.  If I got rejected, would it really affect me that much?

In the gym, I got to  meet some of the guys on the team and we got along, shared a couple of laughs,a nd just had a good time.  When I got my acceptance letter in the mail, i was really happy because I could go to the school that I wanted and play baseball on top of it.  The first day of practice, I was really nervous.  There were about seven freshmen there, including me, but I was the only one that was already on the team.  I don’t know why, but I felt a little embarassed.  they were all looking at me like I was some kind of freak.

Here’s where my story twists a little bit.  I’ve been battling an elbow injury for almost a year now, and I’ve been fighting through it the whole time and healing it during the offseason.  However, the pain is starting to become unbearable.  I don’t know where it came from, but I got the thought in my head of quitting.  This thought has never crossed my mind before and shocked me a little bit.  I thought of just focusing on the things that are more important than playing ball.  Despite my thoughts, I’m still not sure if what I am going to do yet.  I have to go to the doctor next week, and I guess I’ll have to take it from there.  Hopefully everything works out for the best in the end.

How-To: Fill Up Your Car With Gasoline

Since the early 1900s, people across the country have enjoyed using various modes of transportation to get to point-to-point across the nation. One of these methods that is still in existence today is the automobile. However, like any other vehicle used for transportation, people need to fill up their automobiles with gasoline in order for them to function properly. A common problem, however, is that only so many people truly know how to fill up their cars correctly. Only a handful of drivers know how to take the necessary precautions and use the appropriate pumping procedure when they get to the pump to fill up. For these people, many of them opt for the “full serve” option, where they can receive a full tank of gas from a Russian immigrant who will charge an extra few cents per gallon for labor, severely increasing the price of fuel spent by the consumer. As a result, filling the tank by yourself (self-serve) is an option that people should definitely start to consider.

Before one can begin to fill their vehicle up with one of the many different types of gasoline currently available on the market, they must carefully choose and select the appropriate quality of fuel, or “grade,” that their car requires. Usually, this information is readily available in a vehicle’s owner’s manual, but in the case that it is not, the next appropriate action to take would be to contact the nearest dealer of the same company in which the car was manufactured to ensure the quality of a safe, smooth ride in their car.

Table 1.1 below shows some of the most popular types of gasoline provided at most gas stations nationwide. Note that additional types of gasoline may also be required by your vehicle that is not listed in Table 1.1.

Table 1.1

Upon selecting the appropriate type of gasoline required by their car, the next step would be to hop in the driver’s seat and proceed to the gas station. Prior to pulling up at the pump, one should take note of the side of their car that their gas cap is on. This is important because the side of your car that has the gas cap on it must be closed to the pump, as well as parallel in order to ensure the success of a simple and fast pumping procedure. Note that most American cars have gas caps on the driver’s side of the car while some foreign cars have their gas caps on the passenger’s side.

Once you’re parked next to the pump with your gas cap parallel to the nozzle, you should note the pump number usually displayed on the pump itself or directly above it. If you’re paying by cash, this number is extremely important. Upon noting this number, it is now safe to turn off the vehicle and get out of your car.

Below are two methods as to how one can go about purchasing the gasoline required for their car. Note that paying by credit/debit requires a credit/debit card, while paying by cash requires numerous Jacksons or a shiny, new 50-dollar-bill.

Method 1: Paying by Credit/Debit

If you’ve decided to pay for your gasoline with a credit or debit card, be warned: identity thieves are biggest thieves of the 21st Century. Be aware of their existence and if anyone seems suspicious to you and is watching you enter any valuable information into the pump, alert the attendant and leave immediately.

Once you’ve checked your surroundings, remove your credit or debit card from your wallet and run your hand over the card reader in the pump. If the card reader has any wires surrounding it or feels like there’s something inside of it or beneath it, then you should  also alert the attendant. This means that there is a card skimmer inside the pump. If not, dip your card into the reader and follow the onscreen instructions. Note that some pumps require your billing zip code for your card. This zip code would be the code that is registered to the card and not necessarily where you live.

Method 2: Paying by Cash

If you’re paying by cash, the next step will be to proceed towards the attendant. Usually, the attendant is in a building next to a garage or other facility. When you get to the attendant, be sure to tell him what type of fuel you’re looking for and what amount you’re willing to purchase. Note that this is important because the attendant needs to grant you access to the pump. Finally, make your way back to your vehicle.

After you’ve paid for your gas, it’s safe to begin preparing the pump for the pumping procedure. Unlock your gas cap on the side of your card which should be carefully aligned with the nozzle when you first parked, and lift the nozzle up from the pump. The nozzle usually sits on some sort of metal or plastic “hook” that turns on the pump. This hook is a safety feature designed to cut off the pump from initiating the pumping procedure. Make sure this hook is switched up to the “on” position.

Once the pump has been turned on, it is now safe to begin pumping. Place the nozzle in the gas cap and squeeze the trigger to begin the procedure. Note that you will have to hold the trigger throughout the entire process and that the nozzle will stop transmitting gasoline upon reaching maximum capacity of the tank.

After a few minutes, the pumping procedure should be complete and it is now safe to turn the hook to “off” and the nozzle can be placed back in the pump. Be sure to place the gas cap back on the car and lock the compartment. Once you’ve finished, you are now safe to drive away and enjoy a fun, fulfilling drive with a full tank of gas.

Draft of The Story of Foofles

(Subject to change, intended as notes for a verbal presentation rather than as academic writing…)

My heart raced and my hands shook. All sense of motion around me ceased to be; only silence perpetuated. My hands would decide the fate of millions. And so I carved a world, one level at a time. A LittleBigPlanet. Working on that game was the height of my career. Life was good. All those years ago, I thought I would never need college. Boy, was I wrong!
Over the years, it only got harder to get by. My family fell apart, and it was up to me take care of everything. It was time to man up and go to college.
At first I was completely indifferent, but then I started getting excited. “Think of all the people I’ll meet!” “Think of how fun it is to go out into the city!”. Yeah!
Finally, the day is here. The first day of college! Yes! Out of the train and into the big city! It feels so large… and oppressive. Like a fat nun! To hell with it, I’m going to college!
None of the ungodly odors swirling through my nostrils can douse the burning drive in my heart! I notice one thing about Baruch right away – There are beautiful girls everywhere. I approach one of my fellow students and say…
“Hello!” [Slap] “I have a boyfriend!” “I just wanted to know where the 23rd building is!” [Slap] “It’s that way!” “Thank you!”
Barely a college student for 10 minutes and I’m already socializing! Yeah!

After many years, I’m a student again. I don’t know what the future holds, or if going to college was the right decision. But so far, I’m making good friends and experiencing a completely new part of life. I’m going to see this road to the end and make my family proud.

Late Blog assignment-universal national service

Simon Tsui
Basically this article is arguing for a universal national service. It states several reasons for this call, some of the more important ones being the fact that Americans simply don’t believe in the government anymore. In fact the article clearly states that while American opinion on democracy and government are at an all time low, the amount of community service is at its pinnacle. While the amount of community service being done is a great thing, it is not the answer to the problem. The problem is that people see community service more as an antidote for public service when it’s not. That is why this article argues for a universal national service that should be implemented into American culture. With these programs, the government hopes to raise the amount of civic duty that gets performed and solve several issues.
The universal national service sounds pretty good for those who enjoy volunteering their time for the greater good of society. However there are several problems that I want to address. First off the amount of money needed to implement these programs is massive. While I agree that most of this money could be gained from cuts off federal prisons and military, there are many people in government who would argue against this. Second, I doubt these acts will ever actually get passed since these programs seem mostly liberal and democratic so expecting huge resistance from the Republican Party. Also another problem is that if universal national service does happen then the chances of requiring by law to participate would rise and that isn’t an appealing idea at all.

IM LATE OMG!!!

Hi my name is Simon Tsui for those of you who dont know…uh yeah. This is my first year of college and im semi excited. The amount of papers that are all dued at once is rather annoying. I gotta do a report later so keep an eye out for that. This school isnt that bad, people are friendly and i started to work here so its cool. the hardest part is waking up in the morning and catching the subway commute for two hours everyday sucks. Alright thats enough ranting about school life.

I live Brooklyn,Ny and I like certain sports. Football(both kinds) and MMA is pretty high on my list. I love the Supernatural series on tv. As mention before i really enjoy comedy in all shape and sizes. My favorite channel is obviously comedy central-love Tosh.O and his stand up is amazing if you know whats he talking about.  Gabriel is also good(Fluffy man) and the movies are pretty good on the rainy weekends. I love videogames espically the japanese ones. Favorite game this gen would have to be Demon’s Souls-hard as hell but scary fun.

Da Bears!

What’s up FRO1000, im doing this blog an hour before it’s due like a boss. So i generally think of myself as having a good personality, but im also known for being a sarcastic asshole so im sorry in advance if in the future i piss you off. Anyway, my two true passions in life are cars and sports. I guess i’ve just always been in love with cars ever since i was a kid, and actually owning one for yourself is pretty awesome. To quote Bernie Mac from the first Transformers movie “Underneath one of those hoods is your first enchilada of freedom” and i find that to be very true. My other interest is sports, mainly football(Im a die-hard JETS fan). I feel that watching sports is a way for me to kind of escape my life for a few hours, and just wrap my head around the players and the game.

Im looking forward to my first year here at Baruch, but if there is one thing i can complain about so far its the lack of sleep -_-, but i guess i’ll get used to that. Some concerns i have of my first year year are simple.
1- Failing a class. I feel incredible pressure to do well here in college, and failing a class would suuuuuuck
The other two go along with number 1 but are still concerns
2-My time management. In high school i spent alot of time doing stupid stuff when i could have been doing some productive stuff. Now that im in college i got to put my work before everything else =(
3- My last concern is actually being able to do the work. In high school most of the time i didn’t have to study like a maniac for a test or do alot of work, but now that im in college i have to be prepared for each class.

I think that college wont drastically change who i am, but it’ll definitely change the way i do some things. As a college student, your the only one responsible for yourself and i feel that that freedom  will help me to become more independent of others help. Another thing about me that will change is my work ethic, before i was able to procrastinate but now that i’ve seen the real world, in order for me to succeed i have to put in the time and effort.

I’m looking forward to  my time here at Baruch. See you guys around!

“Respect My AUTHORITAH!!”

Tell you who I think I am. I am a South Park fanatic (as you can see from the title). I was born in Albania and came to America when I was 5 and lived in Brooklyn ever since. I like to try new things and will play any thing that can even remotely be called a sport. My favorite sport is soccer and I am a A.C Milan fan till the end. I played soccer for my high school for 2 years, might join Baruch’s team but I haven’t made up my mind. I love jokes and have a large sense of humor so you have to go out of your way to offend me. I always try to help out people the best I can and sometimes will go out of my way. Also ever since I picked up my Nintendo 64 controller when I was 6, I have loved to play video games. That is pretty much it, weird how you can sum up 18 years of life in 5 sentences.

A concern that I had before coming to Baruch was that the teachers were going to be indifferent to students, which was due to what my teachers in high school told me, but I don’t see it. It feels the same to me, if not better because now you know you are responsible for yourself and can’t make up excuses. Another was that I thought I would not be able to handle the one hour commute on the subway, but on the contrary it turned out to be amazing because I can read assignments that are due that day in that hour. I don’t really have any concerns about my freshman year here in Baruch, I expect it to be the normal do homework study for exams school year. I think that the lack of concern is because of the people I met in Baruch that are simply great, and that pretty much made me forget that it was a brand new place that I had never been to.

One thing that I was expecting to be different from high school was the fact that you can leave from school to do whatever then come back and no one would care as long as you showed up for class. Like today for example, I think I can safely say that I had the greatest Philly Cheese Steak in the world, if not definitely best in New York state all done during a break period in between classes which would not be possible in high school.

I don’t expect college to change me in any major way but what I want to work on changing about myself is my procrastination. It would be my fatal flaw if I were a Shakespeare character and has really hurt me in the past so I will work hard to get over it. Other than that I am pretty sure that I have figured myself out and won’t be going through any major changes these 4 years. Glad to be done with this post, although I waited to the last minute to do it, and I can’t decide how to end this so.

who you think you are

It took 19 years to create who I am today. I am a triplet, and 1 of 4 boys. There is a lot of competition between my brothers and I. I am very athletic and love all kinds of sports, especially skiing. I love to be active. Maybe one day I will complete an iron-man like my father. I may not be the smartest kid in the classroom but I am an extremely diligent worker and very responsible. I am loving, caring, and a great friend to have.

I have only one concern about starting my college career and it is not doing so well my first semester. I took a gap year in Israel the past year, and I haven’t done any homework, written any papers/essays, and haven’t studied for a test in over a year. I am very rusty and not exactly in college mode yet. I am not used to waking up so early. I still feel like its summer (the weather is still nice).

My college experience is much different then my high school experience. I went from a high school with 500 kids who had the same religion and ethnic background, to a college with thousands of kids with completely different ethnicities and backgrounds. College is also more important then high school in my opinion. How well I do in college and what I choose to learn will decide my future.

The only thing I expect college to change is the amount of knowledge I will have when I graduate. I am not planning on changing anything about myself. I have my morals and values, and will stick to them. Although I do believe college will change my attitude, and hopefully make me a little more mature then I am now so I could be ready for the real world.

AYOOO

Now that this site finally let me log on, I can tell you a little bit about myself.  I can be kind of shy when I meet new people, but once I get even the slightest bit comfortable with someone I am as outgoing as the come.  It can get a little bit out of hand sometimes but its part of who I am.  I am a hard worker, not only in the classroom but on the field too.  I have a passion for the game of baseball, and I never plan on giving that up.  I believe I am a good guy, I have a good sense of humor, and I rarely don’t get along with someone.

I have many concerns for my freshman year at Baruch College and I’d have to admit that it’s hard to narrow it down to just three.  But since I have to, I’d have to say that my worst concern has to be that my work load will be too much for me to handle.  The work load hasn’t been that bad yet and I’m hoping that it won’t get worse, but you never know.  My second concern is that baseball will interfere with my schoolwork.  I love to play and I don’t want to give it up so I’m just going to have to work extra hard to make sure that I don’t.  My third concern is not getting into the Zicklin School of Business.  I want to study Accounting, and Baruch College is a spectacular school for Business and I really want to be a part of the Zicklin School of Business.

There are many things that I think will make my Baruch College experience different from my high school experiece.  The most obvious thing is that the atmosphere is completely different.  However, I believe that the most important thing that will make it different is that the work is on you.  There isn’t a teacher making sure that you get your work done on time, or done at all.  There aren’t people monitoring your every move and handing out detentions for every little thing you do wrong.  The transformation from high school to college is the transformation from a child to an adult.  It is up to you to build a path for yourself in your future.

I believe that my first year of college will change me in the way that it will make me realize that I have to do what is best for me.  I am an independent man now and it is up to me to do my work and gain responsibility.  I’m not going to lie about the fact that I have slcaked off before in my life, college is going to make me aware that those days are over and now I have to buckle down and make myself successful in life.
