My first time at Baruch library was not on the tour with my classmates in my freshman seminar class, but with my friends, trying to figure out how to use the computers. The tour was not my second time there either. My first visit there allowed me to familiaize myself with the computers and how to print out the materials I needed for my classes. I found out that each student had $100 to spend on prints per semester and each black and white print was 15cents each. This only made me want to get my own printer working at my dorm and save the money for color prints, which were $1 each.
I do believe the library is a really useful place for students like me who sometimes just want to go to a quiet table and study or read. In the future, I can definitely see myself coming to the library ever so often to print out some last minute materials I might need for that day’s class or rent out a book. I will also be going there a lot to make copies, because I can’t fit a big copy machine in my dorm. (My clothes takes up too much room already.) More than often, I would go upstairs and sit in those lounge chairs when I just want to simply read. However, if I decide to study for my classes that day, I prefer sitting at a empty table with a large area so I don’t feel so restricted in space. I also think that the library makes it really easy to hold study groups because you can reserve actual small rooms for you and our friends.
My first experience at the Baruch library was with a friend a few days before the class tour. He needed to use the computer to purchase books for his class. I attempted to log into the computer but I kept putting in the wrong password, until finally it blocked me from logging in completely. I had to use another computer…..finally the thing worked. The next morning I went to the library again because I didn’t have internet in my house, because the internet was struck by lightening. I encountered the same computer problem….again. I was blocked from logging in again, so I had to use another computer…..again. I think I should memorize the password/username fully so I don’t have this problem again and again and again. The library was really nice. I like the gaint skylight and huge spiral staircase. It is very modern. It looks very urban and matches the city environment. I didn’t get the chance to fully explore the library but I will soon. It looks like there is a lot of places to rest and study without interuptions. Well as the semester gets harder I will get to use my free time to study at the library.
