The Third Workshop

On December 6, I attended a workshop called “Networking: Is it Who or What You Know?” It talked about the importance of networking and how to do it better. Networking is about the connections with different people who can help you in some different aspects, such as finding a job, updating the information, or getting new perspective. A strong networking can bring a lot of advantages to a person, and we can learn lots of things from other people.

There were two instructors in this workshop; they said that we have some different areas to build up our networking, such as family, schoolmates, and some professional organizations. Or we could find something we are really interested in. Actually, we need to check out what we really like, stand out, and then do it. When we do it, we will find some people have the same interest; it is easier to develop networking with those people.

In order to develop networking, first we should connect to people, meet people and communicate with them. We can ask them some questions and think about how to continue to communicate with them. So we need to find out the level of a person, and what he really likes to talk about. If we have a large networking, we should have a good schedule for that. Learned to how to do good time management is also an important step for developing networking.

For some reason, we can’t give everybody everything that they want, but we can give something instead. If someone wants a job, we can’t give him a job, but we can tell him if there is an opportunity, I will tell you. It is better than to say that I can’t give you a job. We should be helpful to those we network with as possible as we can. We help others, we will be remembered, and when we are in need, others can help us as well. But we should ask for things that people can definitely get. For example, if we want some information for a company, we can ask if you know someone work in the company, then we can build up other networking with the people work in the company. Don’t make other to be in an awkward situation.

I think the workshop is informative and useful. We can ask questions, and then discuss in it. Actually the networking is important in our life. We should work for it. And I am pleasant to attend this workshop.
