Find Your Passion, Major and Minor Fair

Several weeks before, my friends and I heard about a workshop called “Find your passion, major and minor.” Since some of us (including me of course) were not sure about our majors, we decided to go. During the workshop, the teacher asked us about how we ranked some points of view as the importances of a job and how we valued them. I suddenly realized that I’ve never really took this as a serious problem before. He also gave us a test and told us we could do it online. The test had almost 300 questions, but I did it patiently. They were simple questions; for example, it asked you how you felt about different kinds of jobs. Last week, we went to the second part of the workshop and got our results of the tests. I was happy when I saw the result, because it was closed to what I thought. And it made me feel more confident about what I want to major in and want I want to do in the rest of my life.

I really learned a lot through this workshop, and it influenced me in some degree. Hope that the school will have more workshops like this in the future!

My Baruch Experience

It has been four months since I entered the door of Baruch
College. Although a lot of things are not what I expected, I think I still
enjoy it because I have made a lot of friends, and I have encountered a lot of
nice people here. However, I cannot ignore the academic difficulties compare to
High School, I hope I survive through four years. Starting spring semester, I
am no longer in a block program which makes me kind of sad, but I still look
forward to my future in Baruch.

Finding your passion, major/minor fair

Last time I went to a workshop which I have known through
StarrSearch. The workshop was about finding what you would like to do in the
future, and what major would be suitable for you. The workshop had two parts. In
the first one, we got chances to interact with the speaker as he introduced to
us different majors or career options , then the second one we got our result
of the vocational test (which was our assignment from the first part, and which
we had to finish at home). Overall, I think this workshop is very helpful and I
was very pleased with my result of the vocational test.  The workshop taught me a lot about different career options and gave me more confident to pursue a major in Communication.

My experience in the bookstore

Beginning of the semester, I had to frequently go to the bookstore to buy textbooks. Everytime I went, there was always a long line of people. Had to wait at least 20~30 minutes to get in. Also inside the bookstore was packed with people on line to buy books. When we enter, we had to leave our bags in the front, it was tedious process since on the way out, we had to wait in another line to get our bags.

I finally got all my books and lined up to get my bag. There were these coffee cups on the edge of the storage closets. I gave my number to the employee and as he handed over my bag, we accidently tripped over the cups spilling coffee all over the floor. The guy looked at me like it was my fault when it was the employee who handed me the bag almost throwing it to me. Unfortunately, for some reason, it looked like I was guilty of spilling the coffee, everyone was just staring at me. It was an embarrassing moment that I wished never happened.

Voice

I thought the Voice performance was bit tedious. Not because the actors were bad or the stories were bad but just because it was on my shortest day. On that day, my anthropology class was cancelled so I was able to go home like 4 hours earlier but unfortunately we had to go to this voice performance. I forced myself to go, so basically my mind was already on my way home but my body was sitting in the hall listening to the on going performances.

At the end, I found some stories actually quite interesting. Stories such as a sick girl who got an organ from her best from and she was able to live but her friends didn’t, was an interesting story. The actress also played it very well, she was able to put emotions into it and acted it out like if it was her story.

My experience in the admission office

The first I went to admission office is in the summer of 2011. I needed to hand in my immunization form. I don’t why there are so many people there during the summer time, maybe they all have problems with the admission. I signed my name in a sheet and waited for them to call me. After a while they call my name in a pretty good way(since most of the American cannot call  Chinese name correctly People were nice there and they took my form and told me that you’re fine now. In general,my first experience there is good.

My second time there is to prove my resident. I went there for three times and finally solve the problem. Every time they got different people to receive my documents so it may slow down the precess. Anyway, I prove it finally. In general, people there are nice and thing can be solved anyway. That’s my experience in the admission office.

Zhuyao Chen monologue

My name is Zhuyao Chen and my English name Brandon. In Chinese, my name sounds like “pig monster,” I like this nickname because it defines my characteristics. I am a lazy guy who never do hourse work at home; I always finish my homework until the last minue; I love to sleep until noon for weeken…..All right, I know I am lazy, but I can overcome it. I don’t really like to think about things in a deeper way because I believe life should be as easy as possible. I will try to do anything to make my life easier.

I never go out for sport except my friends call me to do so. My favorite sport is basketball, I love to watch NBA basketball games because even I can not play basketball well. My favorite reading is about history, expecially Chinese history. Since it is a long history, I can find lots of interesting things from it. I love to play computer games, my favorite online game is World is Warcraft, I spend a lot of free time in this game. I also love to watch Japanese Anime, and collecting their OP and ED….When I got home, I always spend time to play games first, wathch animes later and doing HW at the end of the day….Good for me.

Then….then…what should I say….all right, if I can not think about anything to write, I would stop here, life should be as easy as possilbe…Don’t force yourself.

Voice

The Voice was not bad and interesting. Sometimes, it’s funny. And sometimes, it’s boring or sad. But, I couldn’t feel any special for it. Unfortunately, I think that two-hours was boring for me.

The Voices

The Voices was very interesting. Some were sad, some provoked anger, while some were hilarious. Whether they are sad or happy, everyone has their own stories. In my opinion, it was a good experience because I got to listen to the stories of other Baruch students. The two-hour performance was well worth it
