Long time ago, there was a boy.

He was a nobody.

He knew that he was mere a small dot in the movement of history,

and cannot move the world one inch if someone gave him a place to stand.

He didn’t want to become anybody.

And hence he had no models.

He only wanted to preserve his individuality, and enjoy this great insignificance

He was naughty and emulative,

and never doubted about his ability to surpass anyone if he desired.

Living without sorrow and anxiety,

Enjoying life was his first priority.

Provoking by an incidence,

He started to pursue success.

Devoting into studying, he reached his goal,

But found out that he was already distant from playmates, and the previous self

He quickly became familiar with this unfamiliarity.

and kept moving forward without thinking about his motivation.

Time passed and things had changed

He became a realistic dreamer,

Dreamt reality but not fantasy

Spoke actions but not words.

He became a challenger,

challenged nobody but only himself.

He advocated energy saving.

If things are not mandatory, then he preferred not to do it;

It things are mandatory, then he will do it in a simple way

And hence it is the end of my monologue.

*Obviously, that little boy is now speaking.

Michelle Blanket

Description of myself:

  1. Yes, that’s my actual last name. As soon as I introduce myself, off the bat people ask me if that’s a nickname that was given to me by my friends. I always have to convince them and at times show my id to them as proof.
  2. Graduated from Leon M. Goldstein. It’s a small public school, so not a lot of people hear about it. Have attended 3 different junior high schools and 2 different highschools.
  3. Only have one younger sibling, unfortunately we have a 10 and a half year difference. If it was up to me I wouldn’t wait so long to have another child, but to reassure me my parents told me I was a difficult child and a trouble maker on top of that, so they needed time to recuperate.
  4. I have been taking Latin Ballroom Dancing since I was 5 years old. I compete nationally at competitions. When I was a child my parents signed me up to every activity and sport one can possibly imagine, but I ended up choosing dance over all of them any day. A lot of people ask me how I have time for it because this sport is very time consuming, with practices and lessons around 5 times a week at least, but I always answer them that besides the fact that I love it, it’s a great way to stay in shape.
  5. Work at an accounting office for almost 2 years. When my friends ask me why I would choose to work at such a boring job as a teenager, I see it as getting a head start since I’m planning on majoring in accounting.
  6. Afraid of heights, but I mentioned that already during the time I shared one of my free writes.
  7. Biggest challenge with school would have to be the time factor. I have this horrible trait of being a procrastinator, and it definitely catches up with me. Leave everything to the last minute, and that’s where the all nighters start to come into effect. College definitely has been kicking me to the curb with this character trait of mine. I am coming around to not leaving everything until the day the assignment is due.

Monologue- Man Wai Choi

Before I came to America, I was a well-round student in my high school. I was an athlete who was rarely able to academic excellence. I am not going to boost how good I am because all of these were just the past of my life. When I decided to study in America, I didn’t study for the SAT very well actually. I got a bad result of the SAT and I was afraid that I have to study in BMCC. Luckily, I am in Baruch now. However, that’s not really great at all. I can’t do essay and the test well, and also, I get in the varsity volleyball team in Baruch. Unfortunately, I am the shortest and weakest player. I become even the worst student. Whatever, my attitude will never change. I won’t give up and I can ensure that I will be a great student in Baruch and a successful person in the society, not now, but in the future. I believe that “Your attitude determines your life” so the worst situation is the best motivation. That’s what I want to share to all of you. That’s my attitude, that’s me.

Monologue – Chun Kit Wong

Everyone hears this phrase a lot: no pain, no gain. Yet, by nature, I am a very lazy person. If you had told me two years ago to run two miles to school because I’m late for an exam, that’s not going to happen. But last year, I did. I’ll never forget that day when I had to take the AP psychology exam. The train station was a two minute walk away from my house and commuting to school takes around ten minutes. So I just took my time and started walking to the train station roughly twenty minutes before the exam begins. When I got to the station, however, a notice says the trains aren’t working. I panicked and ran to school. Two miles in fifteen minutes. Thank goodness I made it to and passed the exam. After this incident happened, “no pain, no gain” became my motto.

Mirror WallI’m seeing myself in a mirror, things around me can be observe but can’t reach. For me, everyday has the same pattern, back and forth between two places school and home. In class, I will pay attention to the professor, when class is over I will find a place to eat and sleep, everything seems dull and unrealistic like the memory from yesterday.  Yes, a mirror! I felt like I’m in the mirror, the way that I act and behave is sometimes opposite to what is supposed to be. For example, when I got angry, I smile instead of showing anger. Sit in front of the mirror, imagine myself in five years, I graduated from college and got an accounting degree, and later on I will have a stable job working in somewhere at Manhattan, seeing myself as a white collar who wearing a formal dress. Even though, there’s so much pressure on me from everywhere but still I will point to the mirror and say “hey, you are the best, so don’t let the future of you disappoint at who you are now.”

about me Windy

Windy and Maruko

Hi, my name is Yingyi Yao. And you can call me Windy. It is much easier to remember.

The anime Sakura Maruko gave me a  happy childhood and I am going to love her for my whole life.

I came to U.S. half an year ago. I was so confused and sad to give up many things… But the new life is compensating me as I try hard to fit in the context. It was not going well all alone. Life is so real that it has up and downs. I feel I am more grown up as I went through so many things. My dad is a doctor and my mom is a nurse. I am supposed to be in a medical school but I choose to be an actuary in the future. The biggest love they gave me is their understanding and support.

I am not sure whether I am a funny person. But I do have a variety of interest and many many friends. I am good at playing badminton and tabletennis.I can play Chinese Zheng (a traditional string instrument).I like singing and playing logic games. I like travelling a lot! I had been many places and I sometimes traveled by myself.

I expect to prepare my career and develop friendships in Baruch. So far I enjoy my time here.

about me

The first thing you should know about me is that I’m a huge Drake fan. Drake, who used to be part of the show ‘Degrassi’, is now a famous rapper and singer. In my opinion, Drake is the first person to successfully rap and sing, which is exactly why I am such a big fan of his music. I’ve been listening to Drake before he became a mainstream rapper and I’m always up-to-date with all the songs he releases. I enjoy listening to his life story that he articulates through his music and the life lessons he conveys in his songs. The second picture represents a collaboration group between Drake and R&B singer The Weeknd. The eyes and beak of the owl form the acronym for October’s Very Own. Drake and The Weekend make great music together and they both have songs that fit a person’s every mood. The third picture represents the Brooklyn Nets, a basketball team who recently moved from New Jersey to Brooklyn. I’ve been an ardent fan of the Nets for 11 years and I’m happy to see them finally becoming a playoff caliber team. Besides for watching the Nets, basketball is also my favorite sport to play. Every Saturday, my friends and I organize games and play until it gets dark outside. I also play a lot of soccer, and as you can see in the fifth picture, I was on the soccer team in high school. The sixth picture is a picture of the Israeli flag. I am very proud of my Jewish and Israeli roots and I enjoy visiting Israel to see my family and friends who live there. Besides for rap music, I also enjoy listening to house music at raves and parties. Last but not least, my friends are obviously a big part of my life. My life wouldn’t be half as exciting or funny if I wasn’t surrounded by my friends every single day. Basically, if you ask any of my friends about me, they’ll tell you I’m that kid who’s obsessed with Drake, a sports fanatic, and always looking to go out and have a crazy time with his friends.

4.Viva La Vida by Coldplay

5. Good Feeling by Flo Rida

6. A Song of Storm and Fire by Yuki Kajiura

7. Paridichlorobenzene by Len and Rin

8. Now or Never by Outasight

9. Hasta Que Salga El Sol by Don Omar

10. Waves

Ok so my name is Monica and my parents are from Latin America. So I have quite a bit of variety in my music. The first song is one of my top favorites! I always feel like dancing when I listen to this! This song describes me because I knew if I had a chance I could dance well! I wish I had the chance to dance at clubs with some friends. Unfortunately, I am always busy with school and I am also a bit scared of the idea. But I will go one day for sure! The 2nd song is a song I’ve known for a long time. It is very precious to me and represents my desire to escape into another world or just travel with no worries. The third song is basically VERY hispanic from my part! As you can probably tell by now I like upbeat music. I mostly chose this song because Daddy Yankee has been one of my favorite singers since I was a child. For anyone that know, I basically like reggaeton. The fourth song shows my love for orchestras in songs!!! I used to play the flute but that was years ago and now i forgot to how to play it 🙁 still I love how there was so much history in the song about revolution! For me this song is very uplifting and even though the ending is sad, what I take from it is that you should always strive to make positive “revolutionary” changes in your life 🙂 The fifth song represents my optimism. Or me assuring my friends that everything is going to be alright. umm ok so my sixth song is odd. I like anime and this song was featured in the series. I can sing opera (weird talent Dx). I usually sing this when I am frustrated and no one is in the house. It calms me and reminds me there are greater tragedies in the world and allows me to realize how foolish it is for being angry at such a pointless thing. and the 7th song…well it just gets weirder! and more depressing. this song regards the action of humans to be pointless. No matter what we do nothing will change and the world revolves around hypocrisy. A world where an individual does not know what is good or evil, a place where everything is blurred and full of pain. Yet the song manages to give a tropical melody that further highlights the hypocrisy of this world’s twisted values…ok then…moving on!  The 8th song demonstrates the ideal attitude I want to have. I am indecisive sometimes because I fear what others would think    of my choice. Also because it makes me feel happy and energetic! The 9th is another spanish song! This also makes me feel super excited and full of glee! It represents the times my family and I watch soccer. The last song is one of the first upbeat songs i heard in my life. It reminds me of my childhood and my love for romance.

About me

List of songs:

1. Can’t stop me now by Afrojack

2. This is love by will by will.i.am

3. Finally found you by Enrique Iglesias

4. Is anybody there by knaan ft Nelly Furtado

5. Some nights by Fun

6. I’m all yours by Jay Sean

7. Barcelona by Yano

8. For you by Timeflies Tuesday

9. Deja Que Mueva by Sonia and Selena

10. I don’t want to miss a thing by Aerosmith

My name is Michelle, and hopefully these songs will be able to give you a sense of who I am as an individual. On my phone I have over 1000 songs, so these 10 are just a small glimpse of them. I tried to stay away from choosing all of them from the same genre, so I picked them in mind with a little diversity. They are a bit scattered, so let me start with song number 7 and 9. Ever since I was 5, I took ballroom/latin dancing lessons. I competed in nationwide competitions against people all over the world. Dancing has always been and will be a passion of mine. The reason why I chose these 2 songs is because they are very popular selections to hear on a competition. Song number 2,3,6 I guess I would categorize them under love songs, but I tend to like songs that have a beat to them and not just these slow and depressing songs. As people say, what girl doesn’t have at least one love song on their ipod. In my opinion, I find them to be very catchy and even though the lyrics can get depressing at one moment or another, I can’t help myself but to start tapping my foot when I sit on a train and listen to them. The 8th song, i will never forget that night when i went to their live concert and out of the thousands of people i was the lucky one that got called up on stage. The 4th song that I picked is about that everybody in this world needs a shoulder to lean on, and that it’s ok to be vulnerable once in a while even those very independent and strong people. It just reminds that it’s ok to ask for help, when help is need of, and not everything can get done alone. The first song, my friends and I always listen to before going to some social event. It always does the job to put us in a good mood no matter how bad of a day you had. Following that, the 5th song I would call that the aftermath of going out with friends. Basically some nights you want to forget and others last for a lifetime. Saving the best for last, my 10th song is and always will be a classic. I can listen to it all day and never get tired of it. When I was younger, I always used to say that this is the song that will be played on my wedding and I am still sticking with that choice. Hopefully, one day that wish of mine will be able to come true.
