Although I tend to be shy at first, I am talkative and all smiles. I love a good laugh and making others laugh because it makes the day so much brighter. I’m always listening to music, especially chutney/soca and hindi songs because it keeps in touch with my roots. When I’m at home the music is on full blast and I’m always singing, or at least trying to! As you know I am Guyanese Indian and so I keep in touch with my culture and its traditions. These values are held close to my heart because they make me who I am and keep me grounded. I never want to forget my history. My curiosity leads me to ask the elders in my family stories of where our foreparents came from and how they endured the hardships of the past. For me food is another way to relax and connect with family and friends. Trying new foods allows me to connect with my friends with other backgrounds, but Guyanese food will always be my go to comfort food because it reminds me so much of my grandmother and of growing up on the sawmill in Guyana. Once you get to know me, you realize that I keep my family and friends close. They will always be there for me, tell me off, and give me advice. I love them always. Growing up in Guyana has given me a great apprectiation for nature and the things it provides for us. Being outdoors and being active gives me great energy and simply makes me feel good. I’m always up for sports and even if I turn out to be the worst player, I’m ready to play. Movies also go hand in hand with the songs, especially Bollywood movies since 99% of them are musicals. Movies provies a great escape with various crazy scenarios as well as inspires us to do better. My favorite movies are comedies because as I said before, I love a good laugh!
