After a long, eventful summer the time came to prepare myself for the new experiences that would come with being a college student. The new school year crept up on me and suddenly it was my first day of college and to be honest I probably was not ready for it. Transitioning from the lazy summer days to a face paced busy schedule was a shock especially when your mind is still focused on your summer experiences. But it was time to man up and face the responsibilities that were placed on me. Some aspects of college seemed great, the homework that would not be due every single day and sometimes every other week made it seem like I had all the time in the world. Little did I know how hard it would be to actually sit down long enough to focus on assignments and I would find myself procrastinating until the night before even when I said I wouldn’t I’d be lying if I said I still don’t struggle with the same problem but realizing the challenging courses I will be faced with in the future, it’s better to change these habits sooner rather than later. The harsh reality is that you can’t get your life goals accomplished by spending your days doing trivial things; you have to work for it and make your own opportunities. Getting a college education is a way to jump start your career and as lazy as you feel sometimes you just have to get things done. Here I am putting in some effort by posting this blog two days before it is due, if that’s not progress I don’t know what is. My first semester at Baruch has had its ups and downs but overall I’ll adjust and hopefully find classes I enjoy and that will guide me towards the direction I want to go. It is time that I learn to balance fun with responsibility and take pride in the effort I put into my school work. So hopefully I’ll take the initiative in my spring semester classes and go from wanting “ to not do things” to actually putting in extra effort.
