Enrichment Workshop -Jessica Hong

My favorite enrichment workshop is the registration review day. Despite the fact that the presentation itself was a little dry and boring, the professor/advisor kinda did kick me in the behind and snapped me out of lalah land. By going though the class requirements, it made me become more serious about my future. It reminded me to keep my eyes on the prize, stay focus in getting those high grades and never fade to the background. I like this workshop because it was a gentle push to keep moving forward, no matter which path I choose.

First Three Month – Jessica Hong

I believe that this picture reflects my first three months in Baruch College. For the last three months, I began to learn how to restrain myself from being an impulsive buyer. The prices in Manhattan is too damn high, and having to go to school without being lured to a city shops and restaurants is practically unavoidable. But by learning to save money, by bring homemade food, buying used books, using water containers (rather than buying bottled water), and going to a local library, I was able to saved a lot and manage my money correctly. Saving money for my future grad school is a huge motivation for me. Breaking the habits of an impulsive buyer and horribly addicted to online shopping, is going to be a difficult path but it is one that must be done.

The Voices presentation was very interesting. Hearing all the different varieties of monologues selected from other peers of my year, I felt, let me know about who they are as individuals as well as their personality and even difficulties that they may have faced in their lives that made them who they are. Also, to be able to hear the monologues that were presented in class up on stage felt like we were able to be connected even more. The actors did a great job despite having a week to practice; I guess that’s why the presentation this time was quite short compared to the presentation during convocation day.

First three months – Wan Yin Lee

Having to do nothing but read endless, boring texts that do nothing for my life for these months basically sum up my first semester at Baruch and further strengthen my belief that college is worthless, and nothing more than a daycare for freshly high school graduates. I don’t see where “learning” is occurring if all the professor are doing is just sit in front of the class and “facilitate the discussion.” I can read texts on my own; if I don’t understand it, I can research it on my own; I do not see the reasoning behind having to pay for things I can do by myself.

Conclusion: too much reading useless information, too much “memorizing” useless information, not enough experience of information that will be actually useful.

Blog 1: This picture accuracy describes my first three months here at Baruch. College is a lot of fun but it is also a ton of work. I often found myself on my Mac laptop doing homework at home and at school. There were even some nights that I stayed up pulling an all-nighter. This can be tiring and exhausting but I want to have a good GPA.  However since the first few months I have learned how to manage my time better and now find myself staying up less and less.

Blog 2: My favorite enrichment workshop was the Rubin Museum. Even though we were only at the museum for a short hour I learned a lot of new things. The museum revolved around Himalayan art and Buddhists sculptures. We had a guide that gave us a tour of the museum and informed us on the main exhibits. In the beginning I thought the trip would be boring and a waste of time but it was actually interesting and educational.  After freshmen seminar ends I’m considering going back to the Rubin Museum to get the full experience and learn more about sculptures and art.

Registering For Class – Manraj Chawla

I’m glad that I got to meet with my Academic Advisor because I really had questions that needed to be answered about future classes to take and especially which ones I needed for my major. I feel more confident in choosing my classes. Professors may be an issue picking the right one and getting into the classes before they fill up but I think I will be able to do it now after meeting with the advisor.

Registration – Howard

Picking out and registering for classes for the Spring semester turned out to be fairly easy although quite tedious if you are willing to put in the effort to choose a good professor. Searching up professors who teach courses I’m interested on ratemyprofessor.com becomes very exhausting and time-consuming. Picking out the classes were simple; I had a few options to choose from from my core curriculum. I tried to pick courses that may help me choose my major next year and get started on a business curriculum swiftly. The only problem I may encounter is if the courses I picked are all filled by the time I register which will mess up my whole schedule.

Registration (Steven Jemal)

After much stressing, registration for the spring 2013, has finally come and was a lot esier then I would have thought.  I got to pick most of my desired classes, and the actual signing up for the classes wasn’t nearly as difficult as I would have thought.  I would like to thank Christian for answering all my questions and for making the process all the more pleasant.
