First Three Months (Raymond Wu)

This gif right here perfectly describes my first three months as a Freshman in Baruch College. It’s just loads of work and in order to manage, I pull all nighters. Well that is probably my fault for always procrastinating an going out during the day, not to mention I have a job. I always stay up late. Sometimes I don’t even bother sleeping. But these first three months in college had its ups and downs. Ups being I’ve made new friends, participated in many school events and just learning new things everyday. Downs being that I have loads of homework piling up, stress from all the midterms I had and papers to write. Now all I want to do is exactly what this gif shows. Just stop doing everything, drop down, lie on the  ground and just take a break.

Enrichment Workshop – Kevin Chow

Personally, my favorite enrichment workshop was Baruch’s “Voices” presentation. The performance this time compared to the one hosted at the end of August was not so great, but considering it was done with a week’s worth of practice, it was phenomenal. It was nice to see the whole undergraduate student body cheering for one another’s monologues. The monologues were very well done themselves; they were emotional and touching in all sorts of ways. Some were funny, some were sad, and some were even insightful. It was a good experience overall and I enjoyed it greatly.

The picture is from an anime called Lucky Star and it depicts the main character, Konata Izumi, failing to study. I chose this picture because I did not like studying for this semester’s classes. I could not relate to them at all and I only enjoy studying when I like the material. Who am I kidding, I still don’t like studying. In high school I didn’t complain because I knew I could get into Baruch without really trying because I live in the city but in college, I realize that I absolutely cannot mess up. So most of my time has been spent studying… well at least trying to study. I can’t get into studying for long periods of time as quick as I thought. I usually give up and end up playing games or watching videos with my girlfriend. Oh well, my grades are pretty decent and I am dealing with studying better. Hopefully by next year I can focus on my studies more.

My first three months at Baruch have been a lot more work than I expected. I have studied more than I ever had and have worked harder than I ever had as well. At first I was debating on posting a picture of SACC, because I practically lived there poring over my math book and Webworks this entire semester. Even though school takes up a lot of time, and is a load of work I really feel a sense of accomplishment for my efforts and grades. Overall, my first semester has been a pretty decent transition into college, and although I’m enjoying school, I really hope to have a little more time next semester to hang out with my friends, and relax a little.

I thought the “voices” workshop was really interesting because it connected the Baruch community.  Although Baruch has so many students, it can still get lonely there because everyone just minds their business and goes to their own classes. The program really brought the school together for a  fun, entertaining, and insightful activity.  My favorite monologue was the one about bacon, where the author describes bacon as if it was a desirable woman.  This monologue not only contained a head fake, but was funny and descriptive all at once.
