Favorite Enrichment Workshop – William Yu

My favorite enrichment workshop would be “Voices”. It’s interesting to listen to everyone’s stories because sometimes you forget that other people experience different things from what you experience. It also showed me that I’m not alone. I’m not the only one worried about finals, essays, and life. While I was listening to the performers on stage, I was relaxed and it took my mind off of all the things that I was worried about. Only for 45 minutes though. Voices was a good ending to the week even though I still had a paper to right.

An Image to Reflect on Baruch

This is a picture of Harry Potter going to Hogwarts for the first time. This is can relate to me and my college experience. At first, I was nervous but excited to be in college. Even though 3 months have passed by, I still need time to settle into the college environment. The past 3 months have been tiring, exilarating, confusing, fun, wonderful, and some many other things. I’m excited for next semester and I feel more motivated to work harder.

Registering for Classes – William Yu

Registering for classes in college is so new and different. Maybe because we actually get to  choose the professors and the times we want to take the class. There’s so much freedom to it. In high school, the only thing I got to choose was a gym class. One problem I think I’m going to face is not enough seats in the classes I want. One thing I learned from this process is organizing my time so that I have time to study and work. Hopefully everything works out and I get the schedule I made.

Subject: Missed Mid-term Exam

Dear Professor,

I am a student from your ENG 2100 course section GTRD from 8:15 AM to 9:45 AM. I missed the mid-term exam due to an illness. I hope we can set an appointment for me to take the exam. Thank you for your time and I hope you have a good day.

Time Management – William Yu

I guess it’s kind of ironic that I’m going to write about time management and this assignment is almost a week late. I thought that time management would be easy before college started. It’s difficult trying to figure out what my priorities are because to me, everything is a priority. After doing the time management worksheets, I realized how much time I wasted on the internet and things that aren’t productive. I feel more motivated to spend most of my time on school and I’m trying to get back into reading. Now that finals are a month away, school should be my primary focus.

Monologue – William Yu

First year of college and I feel like I’m already behind. Sitting here writing my monologue and realizing it’s late. It’s past midnight and my eyes are heavy. Prioritizing time is not easy and it’s something I will eventually learn as the days go by. But for right now, I’m sort of still in summer mode. Leaving things to the last minute and just not worrying about the consequences. The past couple of weeks have been a lot better than the first month of college. Wake up Monday morning. Go to class. Do some homework in the library. Go to my game, get home late. Finish up what I have left of my homework. Go to sleep. Wake up for 8am class. Get out of class and rush to work. Get off work and rush home to finish readings, quizzes, and precal homework. Go to sleep. Wake up for class, go to the library to do homework. Go pick up mom. Sleep. Wake up, go to class. Leave class and go to work. Finally Friday. Wake up, go to the library to do homework. Go to work. Relax at home. Sleep till noon. Go to practice. Go home and chill for the rest of the day. Sunday arrives and the cramming of homework begins. It’s Monday all over again. RINSE AND REPEAT. There are days where I just want to sleep for a couple days. Maybe hibernate and join the bears in the cave. But I know I just have to keep on moving because you never know when the sun will shine.

Blog Response to Cheating Article (William Yu)

In high school, cheating wasn’t really a big deal. You would see kids cheating left and right, even on state standardized tests. Letting students off the hook for cheating just lets them know that they can do it over and over again. Going into college, some of those students will still probably cheat. High school is supposed to prepare you for college and not just for us to get a certain grade on tests and push us into college. I read an article about cheating in Stuyvesant High School a couple of weeks ago. Students in this prestigious high school faced pressures of receiving high grades in order to get into their dream colleges. To relieve their pressure, they did anything to get high grades, even cheat. I believe that the students and the teachers are at fault for this. Students should not be cheating but teachers should have strict rules of punishment if one plagiarizes or cheats. This is how I feel about cheating.

Thoughts About Blogging – William Yu

Blogging is something new to me. My blogging experience allowed me to see what other people are like and to show people who I am. What I like about blogging is that you can really say anything because you’re not going to be graded or corrected for writing your blog. I follow the vlogbrothers on Tumblr because they have interesting posts about many varying topics. They try to make the world a better place as each day goes by and they inspire me to do better things sometimes. Soooo, this has been my blogging experience so far. 🙂

Who I am? – William Yu

  1. Yellow – Coldplay

This is one of my favorite songs in my iPod. Not to mention, it is also my favorite group. I listen to it when I’m bummed out or when I just need to relax and to listen to some music. The way I interpret this song is that “when the stars don’t shine for you”, you have to change things up and you have to do things differently. Another meaning can be that, you can turn anything ugly into something beautiful. To me, there are a million ways to interpret song and that’s why I love this song so much.

Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol

There are some songs that fade out over years but this is one of the songs that have stayed with me for a long time. To me, this song is telling me to chase your dreams and sometimes you need to block out the world. Once in a while, I feel like I need to get away from everything and just take a break. When this happens, I just want to travel with my family and no one else.

  1. Sunday Morning – Maroon5

Every once in a while, I would listen to this song on a Sunday morning (who knew?).  This song is calming, relaxing, and has a nice rhythm to it. After a long week of schoolwork, work, and practice, I just want to take a day to myself and it’s usually the last day of the week. I get to have a little moment to myself until I have to cram some homework in and some studying in.

  1. Remember the Name – Fort Minor

This song pumps blood through my whole body and gets my adrenaline going. Before a game or a practice, I listen to this song and it pushes me to work harder when I’m exhausted and gasping for air. When I’m exhausted, I think about the other 9 guys on the court also working hard. To be great, you have to practice and to push yourself over the limit. Whenever I step on the court, my mindset is to pedal to the metal.

  1. Waking Dreams – Two-Thirds

I usually don’t listen to House Music but I guess this song is an exception. I don’t know how this would describe who I am but I guess this is my wild side when it comes to music. All I know is that this song is awesome and pumps me up.

  1. The Graduation- The Graduation

This song has probably been heard by everyone that has graduated high school in the U.S. Whenever this song plays on my iTunes, when it is on shuffle, I get nostalgic and I think about junior high school and the memories that were made. It also makes wish I was young because all I remember from junior high school was playing sports all day and not worrying about anything else.

  1. Paradise – Coldplay

I like this song but it’s the music video that’s what makes me love the song even more. This song reminds me of the summer and tells me to enjoy everything in life, no matter where you are and the situation you’re in.

  1. Come Fly with Me & Fly Me to the Moon – Frank Sinatra

I remember listening to these songs when I was little and they have stayed with me most of my life. I remember my friend asking “Who is Frank Sinatra?” and I flipped out on him. These songs inspire to go far in life and to chase your dreams. It also tells me to not to forget the people who have been there for you and made a difference in your life.

  1. Thunder – Boys Like Girls

Most of the songs I have chosen inspire me to be better and relaxes me. I guess this is another song that fit those categories.

  1. Christmas Songs

I love Christmas songs and Christmas commercials. When I watch the first Christmas commercial or listen to the first Christmas song of the year, I get really excited because Christmas is around the corner. I also know that I will have my Christmas break soon. I get to eat, relax, and play video games all day. But I also get to spend time with my sister (returning from college) and my parents.

My Perfect Class – William Yu

My perfect class would be a discussion class about society, whether it be political or societal news. It can be about music, movies, books, or sports (Oh how much I love to talk about sports). Nothing would be off limits in this class and you can basically talk about anything in this class. At the end of each semester, the class should go on a road trip or travel to a city and explore. I love to explore new places with friends and family and I hope to travel to many places when I am older.

My favorite class in high school was an American Classics Literature/English class. The class had to read the book every night and a quiz was to be expected the next day about the reading. Even though I hated having a quiz every day, I enjoyed the reading and the discussions about the themes about the book. My teacher made the class enjoyable, fun, and knowledgeable. We read Catch-22, Nobody’s Fool, and The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.
