Enrichment Workshop Baruch Voices- Tiffany Mazza

Out of the Enrichment workshops we attended this semester, my favorite one was the Baruch Voices. I enjoyed the Voices performance when we saw it in August and hearing the voices of people from my class in November made this enrichment workshop even more interesting. I liked listening to many different views of the school, being an adult, and being a student. I especially enjoyed hearing one of the monologues from our own class. Personally, I enjoyed listening to everyone’s different stories because it showed me how diverse and cool everyone in the class of 2016 is. Although it did almost interfere with my appointment to schedule my classes for next semester, I did enjoy going to Baruch voices. I especially liked how the different people portrayed the monologues to the audience. I am glad I went to Baruch Voices and I wouldn’t mind going again to hear more stories from more different people.

My experience at Baruch- Tiffany Mazza

My experience at Baruch so far has been very nice. On the first day I met a very awesome group of people that have become my close friends as we end our first semester together. Although there was a lot of reading, assignments, and papers due, we all got through it together, successfully. I am so glad I was put in the DTC class, I have met so many nice people who share the same academic goals and are genuinely nice people. At first, i was a little nervous to be a freshman here at Baruch, but with the help of everyone here, I had a fun time and shared. My first semester at Baruch was pretty much what I expected, except for math class, but I am getting along well and I look forward to spending my next 4 years here at Baruch. Registration Day- Tiffany Mazza

Registering for the next semester has not been a big problem for me. I have been using the advice from the guidance counselor we met with last week and rate my professor as I make my schedule for the spring semester. I haven’t had many problems with registering except for the fact that some classes I need for the spring semester are not on the days or times that I wanted. Other than this I feel pretty confident with choosing my schedule. I have been making up a few different schedules just in case some of my options are not available and I think this is very helpful for me. Overall, i am very excited to register for next semester so I can have new classes and meet more new people.

Email to prof. Tiffany Mazza

Dear Professor,
I want to make you aware of my absences from your Monday and Wednesday classes last week. I have been extremely sick, which has made me incapable of going to any of my classes last week. I am aware that I missed my midterm on Wednesday and I hope I am able to make it up. I will be in next week and I am free to discuss this issue with you.
Thank you for your understanding,
Tiffany Mazza

Time Management- Tiffany Mazza

I will admit that I do procrastinate a lot , but I feel that even though I do this, I am able to manage my time well. Going from high school to college, the type of work you do changes, and I think the change helped me to better manage my time. Although I still sometimes put things off for last minute, I am able to start projects and assignments a week in advance now because I have a better view of time management. Even though sometimes I feel that I work better when I put things off until the last minute, managing my time and starting a week earlier does have its benefits. I feel that now when I start my assignments earlier than their due date, I have more time to fix mistakes and add anything I need with enough time and I know I’m not being pressured by the time limit of a few hours before it’s due

Monologue- Tiffany Mazza

On any given Sunday, I’m woken up at 9am by the smell of sauce, the sound of my mom shouting into the phone at my grandma about dinner, and the sight of her waving her hands around the kitchen, all while cooking a tray of lasagna.
I know that before I can even set foot through my kitchen, I’ll be given a list of things to do around the house to prepare for the weekly “Sunday feast”. Mop the floor, set the tables, pick up the bread from the bakery, and most importantly, don’t forget to pick up your Great-grandma before dinner.
Every single Sunday revolves around two things- finishing up my homework, and preparing to have over fifteen people over for dinner. So after almost four hours of everyone running around the house getting everything ready, the first guest arrives- my grandma. You can hear her before she even walks into the house- complaining about how much stuff she’s carrying, how hungry she is, or how she’s been so busy all day.
She lets herself in, says hello to everyone, and goes right into the kitchen to help with the dinner. Finally, after waiting for everyone to show up, because no one gets there on time, dinner is ready. Before the food is even set on the table, there’s a mad scramble for the meatballs and garlic bread, and, finally, after 10 minutes, everyone is actually seated and dinner has begun.
There’s about 10 different conversations going on and they’re all so loud, you would think we’re arguing. And even though everyone’s having a different conversation, at any given time, you can be part of three separate ones, and still know what is going on. On top everything happening, all of the food is being passed around you from all different directions, and everyone is trying everything.
So after everyone finally finishes this 4-course dinner, we put out coffee and dessert and the conversations continue. Everyone enjoys these dinners differently, whether it’s my great grandma smiling and not even talking, just happy to be with family, my dad talking to my uncles about the latest sports game, or my aunts shouting to each other from each end of the table about their kids and work.
As stereotypical as this dinner sounds, it’s what we do. These Sunday dinners are what keep us together. And after my typical Italian Sunday dinner, the day ends just as it started. Quiet.

Response to Cheating Scandal Article- Tiffany Mazza

At the beginning of the year for every class, every teacher went over the school’s policy regarding cheating and plagiarism. While most people seem to over look this topic thinking it’s not important, by the teachers reiterating them at the beginning, it shows the importance. The Baruch cheating scandal, although it isn’t a good thing for the school, also sheds light on something that is often over looked. Sometimes we don’t realize how much of a big deal cheating is until after it’s over. I think the school is doing the right thing by analyzing the problem from all perspectives, and then taking action. I also thought it was a good idea that the people reviewing the problem are not only teachers, but students too. Maintaining a good GPA can be very difficult to do especially with outside responsibilities as well. This cheating scandal, to me, just shows one type of problem the pressure of maintaining a high GPA can cause. The cheating scandal at Baruch is a problem that should be fixed as soon as possible in order to set an example for those in the future, while giving those accused of cheating the proper discipline they need.

Thoughts about Blogging – Tiffany Mazza

So far my blogging experience has been pretty good. I didn’t mind writing about the different topics we were given and it was a nice change from the normal papers due in my other classes. I liked how we had a variety of topics to write about and even with each blog, there were different ways of approaching it (like a video, a song list, a story, etc.). I also like that you are able to comment on other people’s blogs and interact with everyone. I can’t think of anything that I didn’t like about my blogging experience except the fact that every time I wrote a blog it would erase it. But other than that, the blog is very easy to use and read. I don’t think it’s any different than what I expected a blog would be like. I’m not a blog person outside of this class so I don’t follow any online blogs

Who Am I (Tiffany Mazza)

This first picture is of my family- my parents, Lisa and Carmelo, my younger sister, Christina, and my little brother, William. I’m very close with my immediate family as well as the rest of my family. They are all very important to me and have helped me throughout my life whether it was my cousin teaching me how to drive in sophomore year of high school or my mom spending hours with me applying to college.

This is a picture of my graduating class at St. Joseph Hill Academy. As you can tell there weren’t a lot of us- only about 115- and yes, they’re all girls. I’ve always been in private Catholic schools and it not only provided me with a good education, but a very close knit atmosphere. I graduated in June this year being so close with all of them it’s like I have over 100 sisters.

This is a picture of my closest friends. I’ve known all of them either since I was young or met them through school or my neighborhood. Even though I didn’t go to school with some of them, we have remained close throughout the years. As some moved to different states or went to different schools, I realized how important it is to keep in touch with them and how much of a part they play in my life.

I’ve been playing the piano since I was about 6 years old. I quit when I was 8 and picked it up again in the 8th grade and I’ve been playing non stop ever since. Although I did not grow up in a very musical family, when I was younger my mom, who has been playing since she was 5, played me a song on the piano and ever since then I’ve been playing. I still take lessons now and plan on continuing throughout college.

This is my dog, Waffles. He’s 8 years old and we’ve had him since he was 2 weeks old. He’s always running around or playing with his toys and can always make anyone laugh. Even though he is always barking and following me everywhere(he’s sitting on my lap as I write this) I love him and he’s the perfect dog.

That’s a picture of my sister an I on the Swiss Alps in Switzerland. I’ve been traveling all over since I was young. Two years ago I visited Switzerland, Germany, and Italy with my grandparents and over the summer I visited Spain and Switzerland again. I love to travel and I plan on visiting every country in Europe.

I love to read. I go to the library all the time and check out a few different books every time I go. I’m always reading whenever I get the chance to and because I spent a lot of time traveling over the summer, I was able to read a LOT of books, and I plan on reading as much as I can.

My favorite food is pizza. I never get sick of it- I could have it every day. I actually just had it for dinner tonight. I’ve had pizza from many different places and countries and so far my favorite pizza was from Rome, Italy.

My Perfect Class (Tiffany Mazza)

For me, the perfect class would be about current events and topics in the world today. It would be a full discussion class (hopefully no papers) and for each class, one student would bring in a recent topic going on in the world that we would talk about. The topics could be about any subject- math, science, politics, etc.- as long as it is educational and has meaning to it. Each class would start off with something fun to get the students interested in the topic, like a riddle or an interesting fact. It wouldn’t be too early in the morning, and there would be a lot of snacks. We would learn from things like movies, music, activities, TV shows, class trips, and even other students’ stories. The classroom would have couches and foot rests instead of desks for the students and professor to create a relaxing environment so people would feel comfortable discussing the topics.
The professor would also be very easy to understand, communicate with, and he/she wouldn’t complicate the topic. I wouldn’t mind if the professor is strict in class either because I think it would help the students to focus on the topic and pay attention.
