When I attended the OUCH! workshop I learned two things. One, almost anything can be offensive to anyone. And two, just because no one says they were offended doesn’t mean that whatever was said or done didn’t hurt them in some way. People have to be careful of what they say because almost anything can be hurtful. Just because something doesn’t offend you personally or even because it was just funny does not justify whatever was said or done. And just because people may laugh along with what you are saying does not mean that they actually agree with what you are saying. For all you know, one of those people laughing could have actually been very offended but laughed anyway because they didn’t want to be judged or alienated. No one should feel that they are going to be judged or that is ever alright to judge anyone, and people should make that known. It could be just one person, but as long as they say something to acknowledge that something is just off about a certain statement, then is making an impact already because it is making it known that judgement shouldn’t be tolerated and it also letting everyone else know that it is o.k to just say “OUCH.”
