Writing this monologue is a huge waste of time. I hate writing about myself, especially on the internet when anyone can see it at any point of time. I honestly see no point in writing a monologue but i don’t want to fail a class that i need to take so i might as well do the assignment. Freshman seminar, a class that we have once a week that lasts for an hour and a half when we talk about our feelings seems like a waste of time. If the class was once every other week or once a month that would make more sense. I really don’t like the free writes in the beginning of class either. In my opinion there is no point in doing free writes either. The class is also way too long. The good thing is that you only have to take it one time only throughout all of college.

Freshman Seminar Monologue
I remember the day vividly. I came home from High School, turned on the tv to watch ESPN as Game 6 of the 2009 World Series was approaching. The Yankees were up 3 games to 2 and they were playing at Yankee Stadium that night. I kept thinking to myself, “boy how awesome would it be to at a game where they win the World Series.” I am a die hard Yankee fan since I was 6 or 7 years old. I remember the teams winning in the late 1990’s but I never experienced a championship for New York being a full fledged fan because at that age you don’t understand it. Now I knew what was at stake. Something special was going to happen. As I eat dinner on that day, my phone started to vibrate, my Dad was calling me. I picked up expecting an ordinary daily phone call but suddenly my dad says “you ready for the game tonight?” I say yes but before I can even say another word my dad replies by saying good because “you are going to be at that stadium tonight. Elation, excitement were two words that may have described my feelings at that moment. I was going to the World Series game. A dream I never thought would happen to me. The Yankees did their part in making my dream come true. They won that night, won the World Series and I was one of 50,000 people who said they were there when it happened. That defined my life as a true sports and Yankee fan. It’s a day ill always remember and a day I hope to tell to my grandchildren in the future as I hope they are fans like me.

Hey it’s Bruno,

if you were at all interested in asking about me I suppose I would answer that here…therefore, don’t even try to talk to me, no I’m just joking.  Well anyway, I like to listen to rock and metal but am not exclusive to it.  I enjoy playing video games on my leisure time, which is now, like, never.  Especially since I have a family of five living in a one bedroom apartment, there is absolutely no privacy and quite frankly I’m just about sick and tired of every one of them.  It’s actually nice to go to school by comparison, and it at least means I’m getting out of the house…yay >: (

Though with school I got to still have to deal with art history.  Honestly, is anyone even remotely prepared for the midterm, all we do is see a bunch of powerpoint slides and sit there while we learn nothing.  My notes for that class that we’ve been attending is like about two pages long.  Another concern I have… and seriously I’ve been kept up at night because of this… I always feel like I’m forgetting an assignment even when I’m not.  The last thing that I feel I should be concerned about is saving up money to make payments.  I really don’t like having to be in debt and I always try to make sure that I have enough money up front to get things.  College thus is easily the hardest transition I’ve seen because it’s so dynamically different than what I’m used to in High School.  Not really just about the money, but as opposed to high School it seems like everything is on you at your own choice.  I’ve never been asked to read something that wasn’t immediately going to be tested in some way or another.  Personally, I like that college is like that and I think that college will in fact be even easier than high school, which just crammed you with a bunch of knowledge and assignments that you didn’t want to learn.  I think, in the end, that college is going to make me more responsible.

Hey this is Shaily Shah. I think most of us have either met or have classes together besides freshman seminar. If you know me at all you probably have already figured out that I am a very talkative person and social as well. I guess that’s somewhat a good thing? I don’t know but I guess it could get me into trouble SOMETIMES… I love to travel and i hope to continue as a I grow older. I’ve been to some very exciting places such as Nepal, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and a few others. For me traveling is very important and an exciting way to learn about new cultures and people and another way to get a hands on experience of the things you hear about through our media. I also love to dance and have been doing so since I was about 3 or 4. It has become a way for me to express myself and also combine not only my cultural routes but also my American culture that I have grown around. Even though I may seem like a girly girl I do LOVE to watch sports such as football (sunday’s are obviously occupied), baseball and basketball. I also take a great interest in any other activities that I may find interesting. Being a freshman at Baruch I feel like the commute will eventually get to me, the amount of work during midterms and finals and an ability to meet some truly great friends. Obviously entering a college setting there are different expectations from every individual and the relationship between the professor and student changes. I think that I would want to be able to connect more on a personal level with the people. I think it will help me appreciate the friends i had in high school while making it last for college

Hi…my name is Stephanie Calamia (on all of my legal/school documents)  but I’ve spelt my name with 2 f’s since I was younger because, well, I thought it was cooler. Feel free to spell it however you please, I won’t get offended.

I live in plainview and commute to the city but I have no complaints so far, I am enjoying all of my classes at Baruch and the school in general.

My main concern is keeping up my grades, I’ve noticed that the amount of time I put into studying has drastically changed now that I am in college. I feel that it is a greater challenge to keep up with all of the work assigned by your professors but it definitely can be done.

Well thats awkward because I just realized I submitted this post before I was finished writing by accident…oops. I’m new at this whole blogging thing I apologize.

Hey, My name is Samer Dawud. I was born in queens but moved to long island in 7th grade. I’m 18 years old.  I hope i have no concerns after the first semester. I think my first year at this school is going to make me work harder. College is much more difficult than high-school.

My name is Ana. I currently live in Brooklyn.I was born and raised in Guatemala and moved to NY about 11 years ago. My favorite color is black, my favorite fruit is peach and I love to laugh and make corny jokes. I would describe myself as a strong and  independent woman with high expectations of myself. My mother has established a great example for me. She was able to build her own house and raise my brother and I by herself in Guatemala, one of the most violent places in Central America. When I look at her life, I begin to think about my life and what I would accomplish. If she was able to do what she did alone  then there is more much that I can accomplish with the help of school, mentors, family and friends.

Some of my concerns as a freshman college student in Baruch are adapting to the transition, managing my time and maintaining my GPA. I tend not to stress about school related work. Although it is of high importance in my life, I’m very relaxed about it. I’m not like other people who stress out and go crazy, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that I don’t care. I am a procrastinator but soon that will change, hopefully, and I’ll be able to manage my time better between school, church, friends and family.

I think that college won’t necessarily change who I am, it will just help me become a better person. It will make me a more knowledgeable person and open the doors to many opportunities that will help me grow. I look forward to completing the journey that I’ve just began and to become the best that I can be. 😀

hi my name is chris. I moved in usa about 3  weeks ago.  I currently live in astoria. My first language is greek. When i leave baruch i hope to be able to get a decent work that can allow me to live a good life. I like college better than highschool because of the less ours of just sitting in class listening to the teacher.

Hi, my name is Shawn. My favorite color is green. I’m quiet, but not particularly shy. I have a pretty diverse sense of humor, spanning from potty jokes to political satire. I’m extremely patient. I hate talking about myself. I’ve been playing trumpet for 7 years now, and my favorite musician is Lee Morgan. I also like Diplo and Beethoven. I was born and (mostly) raised in Brooklyn. I’m vegan by choice, but I won’t preach about it. I hate veggie patties. I’m never on facebook, but on tumblr at least once a day. I hate pictures. I also hate talking about myself.

I don’t really have any concerns about Baruch. My only real one regards the winter session: there is very limited information regarding it on the internet, and I’d really like to take classes in order to graduate early. I don’t really have a reason why I want to graduate early.

I think the main difference between my Baruch experience and my high school experience will be the amount of time I spend studying and the amount of homework I do. In high school, I  (almost literally, actually) never studied and did no homework whatsoever. So far, at Baruch, I’ve done all my homework and studied fervently for my exams. I also party much more, but from what I’ve been told, that’s a natural part of the college process.

I dunno if my first year of college will change me much. I suppose I’ll work harder than I ever have before in school. I’ll also probably learn to be more financially conscious (Manhattan prices, mannn). Maybe I’ll become louder or something.
