Daniel’s Playlist

In this link you will find ten songs that I feel speak to who I am. Although the songs I selected are all vastly different from each other, they explain various aspects of who I am. I’ve always been considered as rebellious and independent, which is why I chose some of the songs I chose. Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen speaks to my fun-loving side. I like to do what makes me and others happy. My Life by Billy Joel speaks to my independent side. I don’t like to be told what to do and I enjoy making my own decisions and speaking for myself. Hair by Lady Gaga speaks to my free and uninhibited side, though that is not to say that I’m completely audacious. Shake It Out by Florence + The Machine speaks to my unregretful side. I don’t dwell on the past and never regret a decision for too long. Glamazon by Rupaul speaks to my vain side. Everyone is vain in some way and I feel it’s good to be upfront about it. Although I’m not completely self-absorbed and obsessed with material possession and physical appearance, I can admit that I’m a little bit vain. Dream On by Aerosmith speaks to my slightly gerascophobic side. Gerascophobia is the fear of getting old. I don’t actually have a fear of getting old (I couldn’t find another word to use), I just want to hold onto youth as long as possible. Every Rose Has Its Thorn by Poison speaks to my familial side. Although the meaning of the song has nothing to do with family, it has a special familial meaning to me. My brother has my name and my younger sister’s name tattooed on his arm above the phrase “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”. I understand that this isn’t the nicest statement since it implies that every good thing has something bad about it, but it’s very dear to me. Human by The Killers speaks to my autonomous side. I strive to be my own person and not be limited by what society thinks of me and wants me to do. Some People from the Broadway musical Gypsy speaks to my adventurous side. I don’t want to end up doing something boring with my life and I always seek excitement. And finally, It’s Time by Imagine Dragons speaks to my perseverent side. I will always try and do my best in order to succeed, regardless of whatever obstacles are in my way. These ten songs all describe different facets of who I am.

  1. very interesting playlist. If you had to pick a “side of yourself” which side matters to you most? Which side do you like the least?
