enrichment workshops

In my opinion, I don’t think any of the enrichment workshops were useful. Most students are already busy enough with school and other obligations so making these workshops outside of class time was a hassle. They didn’t do anything to teach us about what goes on at Baruch or what the school has to offer. If anything, the first enrichment workshop was the best because it was a somewhat entertaining way to begin the school year.

first semester

If I could choose one word to describe my first few months at Baruch, it would be crazy. So much has happened that it is hard to believe that I have only been here for about three months, but at the same time it has been the fastest three months of my life. I chose this picture to represent these three months because it shows how in college it is hard to do anything productive when you’re living with your friends and there’s so many things going on around you. Most of the time, I have the intention of getting all my work done, but I end up doing absolutely nothing. Between school work, volleyball, and my job it is hard to effectively manage my time, but it’s one of those things you need to do to be successful in college. Aside from all this, however, college is truly a time to enjoy yourself and make the most of your life before you have to worry about your future too much. I feel like I’ve been enjoying my time here at Baruch so far, and I’m looking forward to next semester and the rest of the year.

Hi Professor Hensley,

I’m having trouble understanding exactly what the homework is. Are we supposed to have the entire essay finalized by Friday, or is it just a rough draft? Let me know as soon as you possibly can. Thank you!

nicole lockwood’s monologue

I’m currently really not in the mood to write this monologue. I’m so tired and I just want to go to sleep but instead I decided to procrastinate and leave this monologue for the very last minute. I just got back from my volleyball game (luckily we won) but I’m trying to go to sleep soon because we have another game tomorrow. This is one of the biggest game of the season; not only is it against NYU (a fairly strong team) but it is also senior night. Oh yeah, I probably should have mentioned earlier, I’m on the volleyball team here at Baruch College. Our season is almost over and I can say through the ups and downs I’ve loved every minute of it. So far we’ve had such a successful season. I’m proud to say that we’ve beaten our rival, Hunter, and just today we officially came in first in the CUNY conference. Now I look forward to facing Hunter again in championships and hopefully continuing on to NCAAs. Being on the volleyball team has made my transition into college so much easier than it normally would be for the average student. Not only do I love the actual sport, but through being on the volleyball team I have made so many close friends already. Even though I’ve only known most of them for about two months, I can say I feel so close to all my teammates (especially my roommates who are also on the team.) Between practices, games, and tournaments, volleyball has pretty much taken over a large part of my life. As much as it is sad to see this season ending so soon, it will be nice to finally have time to enjoy myself and explore this great city some more.

Nicole’s Music Playlist

my playlist
 -Nicole Lockwood

The link above leads to a playlist of songs I made that I believe best represent myself and my life. The first song on the playlist is “What I Got” by Sublime. I chose this song because the lyrics talk about being carefree and living a life free of worries. This song is a constant reminder that life should not be taken to seriously, and you should always enjoy life as much as possible.

The second song is “Countdown” by Beyonce. This song is one that is very empowering for women, and I find it inspirational. Beyonce is a strong, confident woman that I believe all girls should look up to as a role model.

The next song is “All You Need is Love” by the Beatles. This song is also one that talks about the value of enjoying life, and loving those around you. The only true key to happiness is love, in terms of loving yourself as well as people who surround you. I agree with the lyrics and the central meaning of this song.

The fourth song is “Living in the Moment” by Jason Mraz because the main idea of this song is that life is short and goes very quickly, so we should make the most of each and every single day. Don’t miss any opportunity to do what you want. I try and live my life according to this idea.

The fifth song is “Closing Time” by Semisonic. The one line that stands out the most to me is the one that says “Closing time, every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” This quote holds a lot of meaning to me, especially now as I am facing so many transitions in my life and adapting day by day.

The sixth song is “Someday” by Sugar Ray. This song talks about reflecting on your life and realizing what’s most important, as well as the people in your life who have had the greatest impact. This is one of my favorite songs since I was a young girl, so it brings back many memories for me.

The seventh song is “With a Little Help From My Friends” by the Beatles. I think the title speaks for itself, as it represents the importance of good friends. I am grateful to have had many great friends throughout my life, and I am now thankful for the new friends I have made since I got to Baruch.

The eighth song is “We Are Young” by Fun. This was my senior song at my high school, and it reminds me of all the great times I had at high school.

The ninth song is “Doin’ Time” by Sublime. This song is pretty much my summer anthem, as the lyrics talk about enjoying summer and living a carefree life.

The last song is “Life is Beautiful” by Vega 4, because the lyrics talk about taking a step back from the hustle and bustle of society, and realizing just how beautiful this life can truly be.
