Wilson’s Monologue

Love at first sight.

She was there sitting at a table minding her own business. I decide to go up to her and start a nice conversation together being able to grab her number. Sooner than you think, we already became attached and starting hanging out. We went to eat at all you can eats like fatties, drinking bubble tea, and having late night conversations until the other person fell asleep. I knew this girl was the one for me. She was beautiful, funny, had a nice personality; did I mention she was beautiful? Everything was going so well and I was going to……

Beep. Beep. Beep. Time to wake up! Blah, it was just a dream.

My name is Wilma and I’m just an average kid. I’m spontaneous and corny, but i cherish my friends and family the most. Without these people in my life, I wouldn’t be where I was without them. With that being said, i leave you with the thought that dreams can’t always be achieved, it’s just how willing you are to make it happen.

Madelene’s Monologue

Did you ever just see someone, anyone, anywhere, and wonder what that person’s story is? On every single one of my commutes, I notice random people on the ferry, on the train, or walking, and wonder what goes on in their minds, or what their lives are like.

In my mind, I see the father with his daughter on the bus as a committed father, who will do anything to get his daughter to school, but who really knows? Maybe he just feels obligated. I mean he didn’t exactly look happy, and it was already almost 8 o’clock. Shouldn’t she already be in school?

In my mind, I see the woman in the business suit zoning out, her mind in another world, and think maybe she’s thinking about what to cook for her husband and kids tonight. But I wouldn’t know, maybe she doesn’t have a husband or kids, maybe she’s thinking about work, as any other business woman would.

I don’t really know the point of this monologue. I guess just to show you a new perspective. Maybe one you should even try out, but I think this is just another free write for me. But I actually think that this free write is the most ‘free’ excerpt of my mind that I’ve written.

Wendy’s Monologue

So where do I see myself in 30 years? I don’t even want to think about my 30s yet because I don’t want to get old. So in 30 years I will be 48 years old but hopefully I’ll look younger than my age. I will have a job I like(which I’m not sure yet), a sweet and kind husband who is also good looking. I don’t cook so if my husband can cook then that’s perfect but I’ll learn to cook. My mom is 47 so I think when I’m 48 I will also have 2 kids in college. I want a boy and a girl and I prefer a boy first then a girl.

Stephen’s monologue

I don’t know where I will be in 30 years, but I do know where I want to be. I plan to be a successful investment banker or hedge fund manager, whichever one I decide on. I’ll be married with two to three kids, preferably all boys. My family and I will have a mansion somewhere on Long Island, I haven’t decided yet, as well as a penthouse on the upper east side. The key to success is to dress like it. I’ll have suits from Roberto Cavalli, YSL, Gucci and the list goes on. I bet you’re wondering what kind of car I’ll be driving right? Well there’s a few. First of all, the Bugatti Veyron SS, for when I feel like messing around at high speeds. Next, the Bentley Continental, and lastly the Rolls Royce Phantom, for casual appearances. Oh and of course, which I think is every guys dream, is to own a fuckin Batmobile. How many people can say they have one? I’ll be able to! One of the things that I will love the most about being wealthy, is that I can travel anywhere, just about whenever I want. I want houses all across Europe, and South America. I’ll be sure to contact you guys in 30 years to let you know what its like to be in the top 1% of the 1%.

Sonam’s Monologue

Who am I? Well, to start off, I am the oldest of three in a big happy Guyanese family in Queens. As the first one to attend college, I focus on setting the best example possible for my fourteen year old sister and my eight year old brother. I am a student at Baruch who takes advantage of using the library during long breaks just to have that golden silence I can’t get anywhere else…well except when there’s a sudden giggle outbreak in the LC03 study group!  I am an intern at a small media firm. Right after classes at Baruch I walk over to work, which is luckily two blocks away, and become part of the fast paced business world. I am responsible for gathering data on target companies, uploading it to programs, and finding connections for marketing executives. Yes, it can get boring, and yes sometimes I wish I had time to join a club at Baruch or go out with my friends, but I’m trying to take advantage of this experience. I have plenty of excitement when there is a new task, or a meeting where I can apply my skills and start to get over my fear of public speaking.  My life has taken a dramatic turn. I feel like I’ve been stuck a box for the majority of my life living in Queens just going to school, coming home, and doing homework. After working for about a month, I only realized the other day that my building is right across from the amazing New York Life insurance building. The building with a giant pyramid of 24 carrot gold! Was I that narrow minded that I let routine get the best of me while neglecting to stop and take a step back sometimes? Travelling to Manhattan every day may not be pleasing on the subway, but it can sure open up your mind! I’ve learned to embrace my daily walks through Madison Square park and occasionally just glance up at the height of the beautiful buildings in this lovely financial capital of the world! What do I like best? What I like best are friends that keep in contact even when you go your separate ways. What I like best are teachers that sacrifice their free time just to help you grasp that one concept you don’t understand. What I like best are days when I have the time cook a delicious food network inspired dinner for my family and get complimented for it being better than my mom’s cooking. What do I believe in? Honestly, I believe that people should live as if tomorrow will never come. I believe that if everyone learns to capture today and make the best of their situation without fear or hatred, then success will be easy to obtain.

Winnie’s monologue

Every little girl’s dream is to have long hair just like the princesses on tv. Most parents would also like their baby girl to be girly. But not my father, he forced me to cut my hair super short. I was actually tricked into doing it because he said I only had to cut a little while the barber was told otherwise. This was the beginning to a third grade girl’s worst nightmare. The next day in class, my teacher told me I looked nice with the hair cut and i felt pretty confident. But everything changed when I went to the bathroom and a girl came up to me looking very alarmed and said, “Excuse me, this is the girls’ bathroom.” I didn’t get it at first but when I did, all I wanted to do was hide. And that was the end of me ever letting my dad come to the hair salon with me.

Guadalupe’s Monologue

One way to get to know me is by knowing about the five top things on my bucket list…One: I must, I repeat must go to Spain. One of my friends went to camp last summer, where her ice breaker activities involved kissing handsome Spaniards. Spain is home to the Alhambra which is half palace and half garden. Two: I want to climb to the top of a volcano. When I went to Ecuador two summers ago I was going to climb the volcano, Cotopaxi, but then the only available slot left was the three hours after my departure date..wompwomp. Three: I want to be part of a Latin ballroom competition and win 1st place…my partner being the sexy dancer, Channing Tatum. Four: I want to build a huge house in Ecuador for my parents to live when they retire and desire a peaceful life in their native country. I am obsessed with nature so the house will have a HUGE garden; especially with my favorite flowers which are camellias. Lastly, the last thing on my bucket list is the most important which is to get married and have kids and not get divorced.

**I tried uploading the picture but it won’t let me. So here’s the very long link (: **

Nicole Segal’s monologue

Since I refuse to look at webwork for another second, I decided to complete this assignment. Where do I see myself in thirty years? For starters I’ll be forty-eight years old (which is a horrifying thought), but I will still resemble a stunning twenty-five year old.  I’ll be the most prosperous (corporate) attorney that New York City has ever seen. My husband will be a handsome and intelligent businessman/attorney/doctor/president… whichever his heart desires. We’ll live happily in a mansion with four children and a dog, and we’ll be part of the 1%. The mansion will consist of several guest rooms in case LC03 wants to visit. By the time I’m forty-eight, I also hope I will have traveled at least half of the world, and perhaps own a few houses in countries like Australia, France, England, Spain, and Greece.

Blog #2 instructions

For this assignment, you must:
1) post the monologue you’ve developed in your seminar AND
2) embed a self-portrait, which can be a photograph, an image, a cartoon, a drawing, or some other depiction of how you see yourself.

A monologue is a composition by an individual that has no set length, and it functions as a window into the individual’s personal look on life: it is a chance for a person to express their character and their voice. This means that there is an incredible amount of freedom when it comes to the content of the monologue.

For this monologue, you are encouraged to use the material in your free writes as a basis for what you’ll present. Your free writes will be given back to you during the mid-semester one-on-one meetings, for which the schedule has been posted on blackboard.

The best way to add the picture to your blog is using the “upload/insert” button and either upload it from your computer or from a website (just enter the URL under the right tab in the upload/insert menu). The picture can be a photograph, an image, a cartoon, a drawing, or some other depiction of how you see yourself. If you didn’t create the image, please also credit the author and if possible, link the source.

I look forward hearing your monologues on the 29th. good luck!

-Jori H
