Christy’s Playlist
Music is something that my life revolves around. If I’m bored on the train, or maybe even when I’m not in the mood, music is kind of like my escape. There’s always a song out there that could describe what I’m feeling without me having to say anything.
1 – Turn it Down by Kaskade: I’m a huge house music fan and this song can always make me feel a little better. It’s jumpy and really catchy at the same time. I heard this song at a pool hall and had to download it.
2 – In My Mind by Axwell: Another one of my house music favorites that I heard at a concert just this past summer. It was an amazing experience and every time I listen to it, it brings me back to that day.
3 – What Should Have Been – PYE: A Korean song that I heard at a restaurant one time become one of my favorites. It was really catchy and even though I don’t know what the song is saying, I bob my head to it on the way to school.
4 – HYFR – Drake: A rap song by Drake that I just like. There’s no particular reason, but in some weird way, it’s calming. I first heard this song when one of my friends were making fun of it.
5 – Let Me Love You – Neyo: It was 10AM one morning and my sister woke me up because she wanted to know what the name of this song was. It’s a relatively new song and is really upbeat.
6 – Bad Boy – Big Bang: Another Korean song, but ever since my friend introduced me to it at the beginning of summer, it became my favorite song, my ringtone and I would sing it to my handball team before practice every day.
7 – Superman – Joe Brooks: I don’t remember where I heard this song, but it’s a song I have to listen to in the morning. It puts me in a happy mood and makes me want to dance. Kind of weird, but he sings similar to Jack Johnson, another happy singer.
8 – If I Ain’t Got You – Alicia Keys: The oldest song on my current playlist but it never gets old. I still remember when this music video was still playing on MTV back in the day. Now every time I go to karaoke, I have to sing this.
9 – Levels (in reverse) – Avicii: Just another house music song. The original song is obviously not in reverse, but this version sounds better to me. This is one of the few songs that I started listening to when I first got interested in house music.
10 – Don’t You Worry Child – Swedish House Mafia: A recent song that came out from a group of DJ’s that are breaking up after their last tour. I’m going to see them live in March and this is their number one song.

Music is a very important part of my life. It is a way of expressing one self in a way that can reach whoever wants to hear. These songs are a few trying to cover every one of my genres that I listen to. Most of this music is relatively new since I have only been really listening and finding music for a a few years now but I feel that I have cultivated a large amount of songs in that time. The place where I to listen to music can be anywhere for instance when I travel by car, subway, or walking I am always listening to music and when I’m in my room I am usally looking up new music. These songs aren’t my favorite of all time but rather noteworthy songs that I am always in the mood for.
To listen – http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Playlist+80/77983983
Fuck Your Ethnicity – Kendrick Lamar: This song is my favorite rap song that came out this year. I downloaded the album after I heard the single off the track ADHD. I like it for its powerful beats and creative lyrics.
Ice Cream – Battles: Everything about this song when I listen it just pumps me up so much. From its style of riffs and how there were multiple ways it bridged back to the chorus it just work so well.
Run Into Flowers – M83: This was the first album I download without advice from a friend or a or blog and it turned out to be one of my favorite albums. This song is also part of the Shoegaze genre which usally is more of a relaxed genre but with this song it is able to have a layered build up throughout the song.
What Ever Happened – The Strokes: For me this is one of those song you wish was just another minute longer and putting a song by the strokes is never a bad move.
Something Goes Right – SBTRKT: I saw this DJ live and I either missed this song or he didn’t play either way I was annoyed that i missed out on hearing this song.
Elephant – Tame Impala: This summer I went to Chicago for Lollapollooza and this was one of the acts that were playing there, unfortunately we missed our flight and all the first act which was Tame Impala. Luckily there performing in New York and I’m going to see them November. This is their single off their new album and now that I am seeing them after this album I get to hear this song live.
Dance For You – Dirty Projectors: Whenever I want to relax this is the song for me. The first time I heard it was at their concert and I couldn’t wait to go home and figure out what song it was.
Knife – Grizzly Bear: Heard this song a few years back and I didn’t like it. I came back to it recently and I felt very stupid for not liking it and giving it more time.
Pyramids – Frank Ocean: Another great song that took me a while to like. This one more eminent and its the perfect length and very funky.
My Body is a Cage – Arcade Fire: This song has everything in it. The build up, simple but powerful lyrics and the ridiculous amount of different instruments that they use.

FRO playlist ’12
Since the Baruch blogs don’t allow Grooveshark’s embedded playlists, linking to the playlist is about the best I can do. Also, the assignment word limit needs to be higher. I’m over 800 words, which means I fail my own assignment.
The songs are in (right about) chronological order of when I first heard them, with the exception of the last song. Also, another requirement for the song to be on this playlist is that it’s still in my cellphone.
So hopefully this’ll shed a little light on my history as well as my personality.
1)Stratovarius – The Kiss of Judas
Boy, it must be a good 17 years since I heard this song for the first time… Probably somewhere around the 4th-5th grade. Back when PS1 had just come out and I had a hard time leaving my room because I was busy playing Final Fantasy 7.
2) Nightwish – Wish I had an angel
I put both Nightwish and Stratovarius on the playlist because they herald back to the early days of me listening to metal, and are definitely lighter than most of my stuff these days.
3) Children of Bodom – Downfall
This is the first band that I started to listen to that was… growl-y, probably around 7th grade. I remember I had a really hard time adjusting to the singing style, but because the melody was just so awesome, I couldn’t stop listening to the songs either. Melody-wise, there is a strong resemblance to both of the earlier bands, but the singing is the real difference. It’s thanks to these guys that I’m now able to understand most metal band singers to a varying some degree. It really opened up a lot more bands for me!
4)Turmion Kätilöt – Verta ja lihaa
The name of the song in English is “blood and flesh.” This and #5 are on the playlist for the same reason.
5) Machinae Supremacy – Winterstorm
These two are definitely the first bands that I liked that incorporated metal and electronic music. I was introduced to both bands while I was in the Finnish defence forces (=army), which is mandatory for all men. Sitting in foxholes, getting sleep 3 hours/night, doing your business outdoors, disarming mines… army was an awesome time.
6) Tristania – Opus Relinque
The album I listened to before and after army for a long time. It’s as good as the band ever got, which is sad. I really seem to be drawn to bands that use lyrics with fancy and poetic words, this song being a prime example. “Challenge my own world to chaos/Thoughts to mind becomes my arch enemies.”
7) Cradle of Filth – Saffron’s Curse
I resisted liking these guys for the longest time. But after I borrowed this cd from the library in Finland (yeah, they stock a lot of metal music… pretty awesome) and heard this song, I couldn’t help but like them. It’s brutal, sad, angry, romantic and the lyrics are divine. link to lyrics: link. Even if you dislike the music, it’s hard to resist the lyrics, they read like Shakespearean odes.
“I wished Her back but the dead adored Her
Even wild winds sang in chora for Her
Saffron from my heart, from the start I swore
We’d be together more…”
8) Agalloch – …And the great cold death of the earth
Up to this day, this is the only American band that I like. I’ve always liked nature and anything naturalistic sounding, and these guys sure do deliver. I also like how every single album and song they do seems unpredictable in how they can change from black metal to acoustic guitars to ambient electronic music with ease.
9) E Nomine – Wolfen (Das Tier in Mir)
In 2010, I did a study abroad in Japan for two months for my minor. The program was full-on Japanese studying 5-7 hours a day, 5 days a week. I would have been insanely burned out by school and trying to survive in Japan (which of course was 24/7 Japanese studying) if it weren’t for this artist. Somehow I found that if I listened to E Nomine while studying Japanese, the studying came a lot easier. I think it may have been because listening to a guy sing in German (which I don’t understand) acted as a sort of a white sound that let my brain relax while the fast beat made me work faster.
10) Theatre of Tragedy – …A distance there is…
This song is an old favorite of mine. Mostly I just added it to the playlist because it’s pretty and to show that not everything I listen to makes you want to kill people (*).
Having looked at the whole playlist, I can’t help but realize that all of this music is ridiculously old -_- I mean, most of them HAVE done good recent work, but since I mostly went with songs that I either heard first or liked first, the majority of the stuff on this list is very, very old.
I’m depressed now,
-Jori
*I don’t think my music makes you want to kill people, but that’s what I’ve been told.

Taras’ Playlist
I listen to music all the time. Whether im at home, walking through the city, or at work my ipod is always playing. Music gives me a chance to get away from everything and just relax. My favorite type of music is rap or hip hop. I cant say that i have a specific favorite rapper because there are too many rappers with unique styles. Here are some songs that i listen to.
1. Wiz Khalifa – Work Hard Play Hard – This song relates to me because wiz is trying to teach us to work hard for what we want no matter what it is. If you want something you cant just wait for someone to hand it to you, you need to take it.
2. Drake – Successful – Drake tells us that all he wants out of life is to be successful. He wants big houses, nice cars, pretty girls, and lots of clothes. My goals are similar to his, i want to be successful and have everything i have ever dreamed about.
3. Big Sean ft French Montana – Mula – The name of the song is Mula which makes it clear what this song is about. Big Sean says that there is nothing more important than money. I want to make a lot of money and im determined to do so.
4. Dj Drama ft Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, Jeremih – My Moment – These 4 rappers talk about how all they need is 1 moment. Like them, I also need one moment. Once i get a moment and an opportunity, i will take advantage of it.
5. Lil Wayne – Misunderstood – Lil Wayne raps about how many people dont understand who he truly is. Noone knows what he has been through, yet they judge what he does and what he says. I too think that i am misunderstood at times. There are very few that actually know the real me.
6. Eminem – Till I Collapse – While growing up Eminem had a very harsh childhood. He learned alot from the environment he was in though. In this song he tells us that he wont stop until he collapses. He is not a quitter. This track inspires me to be strong.
7. Eminem – The Way I Am- Eminem accepts the person he is. Even though he may not be a perfect human being, he is strong inside and holds his head up. This song shows me to be strong and not let anyone tell me that im not right in any way.
8. Jadakiss – What if – This song makes me think. I feel like one decision that i make can change the future in many ways. What if i went back in time and made a couple of different choices, would i be at Baruch? Would i be who i am?
9. Meek Mill ft Rick Ross – Imma Boss – This is a pump up song that i listen to before i play any sports. This song is always playing when im at the gym working out.
10. Young Jeezy – Put on – young jeezy talks about his city and how much he loves it. Im from massapequa and no matter where i might end up i will always remember it. I experienced many things in Massapequa and have memories that i will remember forever.

Krystian’s Playlist
There aren’t many ingredients needed to make a happy day, which is part of the reason they’re easy to come by and make for a balanced life. I try to keep the same philosophy by being in a pace of somewhere between relaxed and efficient, always with a smile. That makes it professional. However, I’ll be the first to admit I rely heavily (see: chemical addiction) on sunlight, fresh air, and following my urges to do anything. So you can pretty much expect me to be a miserable mess on rainy days where I’m stuck indoors and have no say in what to do. Another thing: being self-reliant is hard work. I suppose that’s why I’m heavily drawn to fast-paced pumping beats, like dubstep, drum n’ bass, and the like. Also quiet piano / violin duets. Those are nice too. Let’s wrap this presentation up with a one-or-two-or-more word summary: optimistic, energetic, and always aspiring.
Deadmau5 – Cthulu Sleeps
Airwalker – Lifetime
Distant Worlds – Blinded By Light (FFXIII)
bLiNd – Will to Fight (Blue Skies Remix)
Sergei Mantis – Sea Breeze
Enigma Dubz – Searching
Technicolour – Glint
Ott – Owl stretching time
Nicky Romero – Toulouse
Beat Hazard – Renai Circulation (Natural Decoration Core Mix)
