Guadalupe’s Last Post

I believe the Academic Advisement workshop was the most useful. As the Spring registration approached last week I wasn’t too concerned, at first. I thought everyone was exaggerating when they said there would be no classes left. Monday of last week was when the stress began. As I asked my friends what time their registration was, I realized I was the last one to be registering which stressed me out. However, if it wasn’t for the Academic Advisement workshop I wouldn’t have known how to go about registering. I planned out what classes were a must to take for the Spring semester.

The day of registration came and I was beyond stressed. I get stressed very easily by the way, so Thursday I was going crazy. However, thanks to the workshop I planned everything out ahead of time. Even though most classes were taken up, I managed to get into the classes I needed. The 7:50 am Business Law is still annoying me, but everyone needs to make sacrifices in life. So basically, the workshop did come in handy.

Throughout my classes, I have encountered many sorts of teachers. I believe that both the students in your class and the teachers decide whether the class will be enjoyable. My history professor is a very smart person and he is very passionate when he teachers. He even tears when he talks about John Brown and Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. He is a very organized man and if  something is out of place, will freak out. Once time he miscounted the quizzes to be handed out for each row and he postponed the quiz until the end of the class so he can fix the order. Another incident when he freakout occurred when the projector was not working. We spent about fifteen or twenty minutes trying to fix the projector. This proves that even a professor with a Masters doesn’t know everything.

Another professor that does not know how to turn on the projector is my English Professor, Cathy. She is my favorite teacher and is the most down to earth professor. She also owns her own theatre. However, she is not tech savvy. One day she asked my class how to use the iPhone. Even the most experienced teachers do not know how to the simple tech stuff.

These teachers have taught me that even the smartest people can have flaws. College has shown me that if you are not computer savvy than you will struggle. When i go to the library all I see are Macs. As I entered college I thought that I would not need to bring in my laptop. During high school no one would bring in their laptop. When a teacher would assign a project my group members would be lazy to bring in their laptop. However, I remember when during my first political science class everyone pulled out their laptops and I saw there with my pen and notebook. Just this past weekend I purchased my first Mac Air laptop; not I take it everywhere.

Another lesson I learned from this was that you learn something everyday. Both professors did not how to do something as simple as turn on a projector. However, in college you can learn many life lessons. For example, the transition from high school and college shows who your real friends from high school are. Unfortunately, my best friend from high school has proven to not be my true friend. However, my other best friend who went to Cortland has proven to be my true friend. Even though she is six hours away we text each other every day and when she comes to visit for the holidays we see each other almost everyday. I hope to learn many more things as the years go by at Baruch.

Guadalupe’s Monologue

One way to get to know me is by knowing about the five top things on my bucket list…One: I must, I repeat must go to Spain. One of my friends went to camp last summer, where her ice breaker activities involved kissing handsome Spaniards. Spain is home to the Alhambra which is half palace and half garden. Two: I want to climb to the top of a volcano. When I went to Ecuador two summers ago I was going to climb the volcano, Cotopaxi, but then the only available slot left was the three hours after my departure date..wompwomp. Three: I want to be part of a Latin ballroom competition and win 1st place…my partner being the sexy dancer, Channing Tatum. Four: I want to build a huge house in Ecuador for my parents to live when they retire and desire a peaceful life in their native country. I am obsessed with nature so the house will have a HUGE garden; especially with my favorite flowers which are camellias. Lastly, the last thing on my bucket list is the most important which is to get married and have kids and not get divorced.

These pictures represent my interests in life.

Picture #2: I can cook many dishes but ever since high school I was known for cupcakes. I enjoy baking with friends and family to make it more fun.

Picture #3: When summer comes I looked forward to beach volleyball, this is the only sport that I am good at.

Picture #4: I have been dancing ballet, tap, and jazz/hip hop ever since I was five years old. I was part of my school’s dance team in high school. This year I hope to take part of Latin and ballroom dancing.

Picture #5: I hope to become a wealth businesswoman someday.

Picture #6: I am a family-oriented girl and I enjoy when my family throws parties. The special occasion in this picture was my Sweet 16 in Ecuador.

Picture #7: This picture represents the neighborhood I have lived in for 18 years, Astoria, Queens. I never want to move away from this area.

Picture #8: This picture is in Cuenca, Ecuador where my parents grew up. I love going to Ecuador but I hope to travel to more places around the world; which is why I’m thinking about going into international business. I have only traveled to 5 states in the USA, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic. I hope to travel overseas someday.
