Winnie’s post#3
My experience at Baruch is fairly pleasant except for certain things I learned in the process of getting used to college. Coming into college, I was expected to be loaded with work from day one. Turns out, that’s not how it is. There is a mediocre amount of work, but at the end, the work piles on when you least expect it. I have learned that it is not able for me to get the papers done the day before anymore. When I did that, I wanted to rip all the hair out of my head. So in the future, make drafts and writing a long paper will come easier. Studying habits is another thing I had trouble with. I tend to procrastinate a lot and try to jam everything in my head at the last minute not realizing how much information I have to learn in a short amount of time. In short period of time at Baruch, I have learned that I get distracted really easily. In order to study properly, I have to be isolated without any distractions. Doing homework in the library only costs me to procrastinate even more because the subject always gets changed. Even when there is silence and everyone is focused on their work, I always end up eavesdropping on someone else’s conversations. When I’m at home and have no one to talk to, to an get more work done and in a shorter amount of time. Registering for classes is also something I have never experienced before. It’s like going shopping on black Friday except there’s no sale. People rush to get a spot with a decent teacher, but sooner or later, you get so desperate you don’t care about the teacher or time. When you get a class it’s like winning the lottery. This was something different than what I thought it would be like. I thought it would be easy just to type codes in. I even made a mock schedule but my actual schedule did not look anything like I thought. Baruch has opened my eyes to a world where nobody cares if you get something done, you have to rely on yourself.

Winnie’s monologue
Every little girl’s dream is to have long hair just like the princesses on tv. Most parents would also like their baby girl to be girly. But not my father, he forced me to cut my hair super short. I was actually tricked into doing it because he said I only had to cut a little while the barber was told otherwise. This was the beginning to a third grade girl’s worst nightmare. The next day in class, my teacher told me I looked nice with the hair cut and i felt pretty confident. But everything changed when I went to the bathroom and a girl came up to me looking very alarmed and said, “Excuse me, this is the girls’ bathroom.” I didn’t get it at first but when I did, all I wanted to do was hide. And that was the end of me ever letting my dad come to the hair salon with me.
