Me and My World

My name is Daniel Kennedy, however, I prefer to be called Danny. Family wise, I have an older brother who is a senior in college, my mom, dad, and my 2 dogs. I am from Morristown, New Jersey, about an hour outside of the city, in northern NJ. I do live in the dorms on 97th and 3rd on the Upper East Side, so the 6 is my lifeline to Baruch. Although I just moved to the city about a month ago, I am absolutely not a stranger to the city, as I have been coming here very often, since before I could even walk. I like how in the city, I can rely on public transportation, since back in New Jersey, I have to drive pretty much everywhere. I do, however, enjoy New Jersey for both its beautiful beaches (which are NOTHING like the Jersey Shore TV show) and its wonderful views of the city.

One of my favorite things to do is travel, and lucky for me, I have family in Santa Barbara, California. I try to get out there once, or even twice, each year. The first picture is a photo of Santa Barbara, located 90 miles north of LA, it is a beachside town nestled between the beach and the mountains. It is dubbed “The American Riviera.” The next picture was taken on my way to Santa Barbara. The planes in the picture are of the Denver Airport. It was the day after Christmas, and when I took off at 7am from Newark, it was pouring rain. In Denver, there was a blizzard. Literally, thirty minutes after that pic, the sun came out and my plane was taking off to Santa Barbara, where it was 68 and sunny! I also have a pic of myself in front of the Eiffel Tower. Last spring break, I took a trip to visit my friend studying in London. For one day, we took the train to Paris. It really was just like in the movies. The picture of me in the jacket and tie was taken on Easter, with my older brother, who is 21. The pictures of the dogs are my dogs, Charlie (White) and Henry (Black). The photo of the beach was taken in Ocean Grove, a town where I go with my grandparents at the Jersey Shore every summer. Finally, the picture of me on the segway was taken when I went with my friend (the other person in the picture). My friend was traveling to Chicago to look at colleges last November, and we had a long weekend, so I decided to tag along. In fact, I didn’t even pay a dime for my plane ticket since I had enough miles through traveling with United Airlines.

At Baruch, I plan to major in Corporate Communications, with a minor in IT.

Anyway, enough about me, tell me about YOU!

Freshman Seminar Blog #1- Yousuf Ahmed

I, Yousuf Ahmed, am from South Brunswick, NJ. Since I am one of the few students in my class from New Jersey, I am almost an outsider. This means that I do not really know the city, and I need to check out tourist attractions such as the Empire State and such. I am generally a quiet student in class. This allows me to be an attentive student, too. In fact, I read my books for class in order for my success in my academic career. I want to pursue a career in business more specifically in sales & trading because I want to know more about the markets and how they work. Also, when I am in class, I ask questions in order to make sure I understand what is going on in the class. When I go out for lunch with my classmates, I usually end up getting something quick to eat. I just want to get my lunch over and done with it because it can take a while, and I do not want to miss class. The city is a big place and a different place from South Brunswick, so a lot feels new and different. For example, the subway is not a transportation vehicle I can take when I am home. People usually drive everywhere. There are not any huge skyscraper buildings either. The city is tightly compacted whereas at home, everything is pretty much spaced out. In addition, this is the first time I’ve left home for academic endeavors and career prospects, too.  This is the major reason as to why everything is so different to me in the New York. Another interesting fact about me is that I do not really watch TV or sports. I have tried to get myself into sports and have at one point in time used to watch basketball, but then it kind of faded. I do not really have time for TV because I do other activities that make me busy such as homework.  I like to hang out with friends, too. It makes me feel good to see them because they are people I can just relax and chill with. I live at the dorms, which is a different experience as well because I share a room with my roommates, and at home, I had a room all to myself. I drive a 2000 or 2001 Nissan Maxima when I am home. My birthday is coming up on November 12. I will be turning 18. I am probably one of the younger students in my class. My favorite clothing store is Express. When I checked out Express on 5th Ave., I thought I was in heaven because there was just so much more selection of clothes and products. The city will be a great place to learn a lot about different cultures, to purse academic and career success, and to really push myself to great length. This is some information about me!

music and my life

Asking me to only pick 10 of the 14,000 songs i have on my computer is like asking me to find a needle in haystack. Asking me to pick 10 that explain who i am is even an even more outrageously impossible task. I could start off by telling you that my name is ben and that I love music; But keep in mind thats just a start. That alone is nowhere near enough to explain my feelings for music. When I hear a great song, there is something inside me that wakes up and fills me up with emotions i couldn’t imagine living without. For instance some songs can fill me with excitement and happiness like “Golddust” “Mutfakta” or “Atom”. When I hear these songs, I cant help but liven up my mood as well as the moods of those who surround me. No matter where I am, I will radiate happiness on to others, even a crowded subway. On the other hand, there are songs that evoke deep and intense emotions of sadness or just put me into a trance of deep thought. I didn’t add these songs to my list because I wanted this to be a happy post. However, I did throw a few songs that send me off into a trance of deep thought. Songs like “Bistro Fada”, “Stay Young Go Dancing”, and “Crazy” do just that. When I listen to them, I feel like im in my own world and I can asses myself and think deeply about my goals in life and where I want to see myself in 5,10,15 years from now. My music makes me who I am. Basically, I am a giant library of over 14,000 songs and I cannot descibe to you who I am in a 1000 page blog post. If you want to know more about me, ull just have to get to know me in person.
