Baruch Life

http://collegecandy.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/what-i-do-meme-college.jpg

This is pretty accurate of how college has been so far. I’m not overly thrilled with it. I never imagined my college experience to be as dry and monotonous as it has been thus far.  I feel as though this is just like high school except it takes an hour and a half to get here and I get actual work now. I haven’t made a ton of new friends like I expected to, and although I know it’s not the main purpose of college, I haven’t been to a college-related party.  All of my friends that went away and dormed are having the time of their lives, and while my life is also interesting right now, it has nothing to do with college or school.  If it weren’t for the price and the opportunities I have at Baruch, I would not have come here.

Enrichment Workshop

The exhibit at the Mishkin Gallery of Bernstein’s art wasn’t exactly enticing or interesting, for me personally. I am a big fan of art, but I particularly enjoy modern art and pop art especially. Bernstein was a an artist that used dark colors, and realistic images of everyday life around NYC.  Although I wasn’t a huge fan of her work, a few images stuck out. The painting showing a girl that was holding a parrot stuck in my mind, mostly because we were told by our guide that some people think that this bird is actually a cat.  I found this strange since it was very clearly a bird to me. Another painting showing a woman holding a very weird looking baby also stuck out to me.  This was made during a time when artists weren’t really sure how to paint a baby’s face and the “baby” really just looked like a tiny adult. Overall, a didn’t ENJOY the trip to the gallery, but it was kinda cool to see some new art.

American Healthcare

The New York Times study revealed that about 14 million Americans are “uninsured and living in poverty” and while not surprised by this statistic, I do believe that it is a very saddening one and one that I believe should change.  As the article explains, not everyone under the poverty line is a “bum.” Many of these people are the working poor and their jobs do not provide them with coverage.  It’s simple: not all jobs just come with insurance. Nurse aids, cooks and cashiers are all included in this statistic, and they are all hardworking. I do not believe that we should just let these people’s health suffer when they are working just as hard as the rest of us, and for lower wages at that.  I believe that the government should provide healthcare for everyone, and no one should be left uninsured.  No one should be turned away at the hospital or at doctors when their lives and livelihoods are on the line.

Kizoa slideshow: baruch blogSlideshow

Out of all of the images in the world that I could have chosen to represent myself, I have decided to use recent personal pictures to show who I am as a person and what is important to me.  In two of these photos, my family is displayed: once supporting me at my graduation, and another from last Christmas.  My family is so important to me and I honestly don’t know who I would be without them in my life. They’re the only people that have consistently been in my life since birth, and I know nothing will ever break the bond I have with each of them. In another picture, I chose to show one of my best friends, Ardita, who knows me better than almost anyone and I can be totally myself with. The picture with a group of friends is the group I mostly hung out with in high school, and I’m so happy I met all of them, because high school wouldn’t have been the same without any of them.  I let the other 3 pictures represent my hobbies and interests.  My whole family is huge Giants fans and subsequently, I am as well, which is shown in the picture from when we won the Super Bowl in 2012. Music is my only passion in life and I literally (okay, maybe not LITERALLY) breathe it.  I chose to represent this with a picture of me with the guitarists of one of my favorite bands, The Maine, from this summer.  I plan on working in the music industry one day and one of my dreams is to travel with Warped Tour on the summers, which is why I chose a picture from when I worked at Warped Tour this summer.  Lastly, I chose a picture from when I went skydiving this summer to show that I love new and adventurous things, especially adrenaline pumping ones! Although this is only a glimpse of who I am, I think these 8 pictures show the most basics interests of my life and give a good idea of what means the most to me.
