Me

Posted by jc158709 in Uncategorized

Who am I, you ask? I am me. I’m 17 years old and was born in NYC. I’ve always lived in New York and never really ventured too much outside the places I grew up. I lived in the same house for as far as I can remember. At a young age, I started school. My very first school was some Pre-K under a church. I’m not really sure why, but my random large parts of my early life have to do with church. I don’t have very many memories of this time. Afterward, I was enrolled in a private school until 2nd grade. These were some of the best times of my life. I had always been very social and the new school I was going to allowed me to fully show how social I was. After the 1st grade, I transferred to P.S. 7. I stayed for one year until I transferred schools again, this time, to P.S. 131. From there, I moved to Ryan Middle School. By this point, it had become harder to make friends since it took more time to get accustomed to every new environment I went to. It was in middle school that i met my first love. But that’s a story for another time. I finished middle school and went to Brooklyn Technical High School. By that point, I had thought that I built strong friendships in middle school. My freshmen year in high school was pretty bad for me. It was really hard for me to make friends and by the end of freshmen year though, I had lost contact with everyone I knew in middle school. I was still hung up on the girl I like in middle school and didn’t really know how to fit in because it seemed like everyone already knew each other. By the time I went to sophomore year, I was pretty much alone. The same pattern of going straight home everyday after school had took its toll. It was sophomore year that I actually became one of my closest friends in high school. My AP Chemistry teacher had after school tutoring that lasted until late at night. I became more social and eventually made more and more friends. Junior year came  by. I fell in love with another girl at this time but never bothered to ask her out. Maybe it was because I knew I was just using her to stop thinking about my first love, maybe because I was scared of getting rejected. I don’t know. For all intents and purposes, let’s call her girl 2. After girl 2 got a boyfriend that didn’t last 6 months, I gave up on her. I wasn’t angry or anything, like someone else that like her, I was actually happy that she found someone that she really liked. Junior year came and went. Everyone around me was trying their hardest to get the best possible grades but I was just doing whatever I wanted. I finished my best year of schooling, maybe even best year of my life last year.

Hey guys, my name is Alex Lee. I’m Korean and I made a slideshow about food. I feel like I have a passion for food. I eat like 6 meals a day! I guess I have fast metabolism or it could be just that I exercise (play sports) a lot. So instead of plainly telling you facts about myself with pictures of me, I made this slideshow of foods to describe myself. The first picture is a marinated meat called Galbi. This is probably my favorite food so if you ever decide to treat me out you know what to buy me! When I am eating this is probably when I am the happiest. The next one is about a soup called Gahmjah Tang (Potato Soup)! It is something that my sister loves. So I grew to like it too. My sister and I are not that close but we are there for each other when it really counts! The 3rd and 4th pictures are basically in a group. They are call Jjambbong and Jjajangmyun, two noodle based foods that are eaten in a Korean Chinese restaurant. These two foods define me as indecisive because I never know what to get between the two! If we went to a restaurant together, I would probably looking at the menu for about 10 minutes longer than you would! The 5th picture is another meat called Samgyupsal. It is really good with alcohol! Just kidding I would not know because I do not drink or do anything bad. But I have heard it was good with alcohol(wink)! The 6th picture makes up my childhood when I was in Korea. In Korea, there are many street vendors that sell these, I guess you can call them snacks. This one is called Soondae but there are many others like Tteokboki and Odeng. In Korea, this used to be my life everyday. I used to save up to buy these snacks. This is one of my favorite memories of Korea. The next food is call Soondubu Jjigae or soft tofu stew. This is one of my favorite soup/ stew things! it represents me because it is so soft meaning that I am not a mean guy! I might be awkward with you at first, but as we start to talk it will become better just like how the tofu gets better the longer you boil it. The last picture is a dessert called Patbingsu, Korean shaved ice. This shows how much I love sweet things. If you have candy and i see it, I will probably be next to you in a matter of seconds. Well that is basically everything you should know about me. Peace!

Eight Images That Represent Me
Badminton

Hi, my name is Jeanne Ta. I’m a freshman at Baruch as you all know. I’ve lived in New York for as long as I can remember. I made an eight picture slide show to represent who I am. I’m not very good at sports but I am really good at badminton. I played badminton for most of the years I’ve spent in high school. As I mentioned, I’m not athletic so I don’t know how to swim or ride a bike. Just recently during this summer, I learned how to ride a bike with the help of my friends.
My favorite fruit is longon. Not many people know what this fruit is; it has a slight honey flavor to it. The flesh of this fruit is soft and chewy. It is usually available during the summer. I remember I choked on the seed of this fruit when I was very young and I was very scared at the time.
I really like to cook, but usually only the foods that I like to eat. I learned to cook little by little starting from when I was seven. Of course, there were many failures as I learned to cook new foods, but my family supported me along the way by eating whatever I made. I also like to bake sweets. In my family, I’m always given the job of baking sweets for special occasions because I think it is very fun. Each time I successfully make something, I feel very accomplished.
Before, I never really thought of myself as an artistic person, but now I have realized that I enjoy painting landscapes. I joined an art class during the summer because I wanted something to do. I was surprised that I really enjoyed painting landscapes and looked forward to each class. Although I enjoy painting, I think it will stay as a hobby. People have encouraged me to pursue this in college but I can’t see myself doing this in the future.
When I was young, I always wanted to play the piano because it made such beautiful music with each note being played. I took a piano class in school a few years back and I thought that I would love it but I didn’t. The music was beautiful but having to read the musical notes was very tedious. It was very difficult for me to memorize the notes of the piece I was playing, but I’m glad that I at least tried and found out that I don’t like it. It makes me feel that life is a series of trial and error; you won’t know what you’ll like until you’ve tried it. So in the upcoming years at Baruch, I hope I can learn many things.

Hello, everyone! My legal name is Wen Xin Li, but you can call me Wendy if you think this is easier for you to remember. I was born in China and I just immigrated to America four years ago. It is very proud to attend Baruch College as a freshman. The eight image slides that I was created represent some interesting facts about me and reveal my personality.

Richard Clayderman is my favorite classical pianist. He had a title called “Prince of Romance”. I believe he is one of the most romantic piano performer in the world because I really like the pieces that he had played-Marriage D’ amour and Souvenirs D’enfance. I think I am an optimist because I don’t like to be covered by the sadness or sorrow for a long time. The sadness will never exist very long in my life. I believe time is a very precious gift from God. I don’t spend much of my time in playing computer or watching television shows at home when I have free time. I always use my time in a beneficial and proper way. For example, I will read some English books or novels in weekend; I will take a walk with my best friends after dinner time; I will play the musical piece in electoral piano to my family members. Moreover, the most attractive thing to do for me is to take pictures of the nature in daily life. However, I don’t have a professional camera yet.

Let’s talk about something that I don’t like deeply. First of all, I don’t like any sports because I don’t have a good nerve in sports. The only sport that I can play well is badminton. It is very difficult for me to have an absolute resolution to have a diet because I cannot refuse to eat delicious food just in front of me.

My name is Amy and my legal Korean name is Chaiyoung. I was born in Korea and moved to New York in 5th grade. Being an outgoing, and friendly person, I was able to settle into the new environments quickly. If you take a look at my first slide, you’ll notice that I was a really tiny little girl back in like Pre-K. I was always the smallest person in my grade. My parents are so proud of me for reaching the height of 5 feet and 2 and a half inches today. My second slide shows my favorite sports, Volleyball. I started playing Volleyball in 8th grade for church events and fell in love with it and couldn’t stop playing. My team was always considered to be weak, young, and bad. However this year spring changed everything! We finally got the first place trophy and we knew all our hard works finally paid off. I don’t think I will ever stop playing Volleyball even though I’m not a professional athlete. My third slide shows my passion for my church. I am a devoted Christian and love spending time in church with my friends. My fourth slide is a picture of me and my sister. She’s nine years younger than me, yet we still have fun together, fight all the time, and forgive each other just like other typical siblings. My fifth slide is pictures taken from SixFlags. I go there at least once a year, and I can proudly say that I’ve been on every single rides in that amusement park in NJ. I love roller-coasters. I always wait a bit longer on the lines just to ride in either the front seats or the back seats. My 6th slide shows my birthday cards including a gigantic birthday poster. I am so happy to have a best friend that can write me such a long and special birthday card. My seventh slide shows many things about me. I like to dance with friends.  Many might assume that I’m musically talented by looking at those two pictures, but the twist is that I have no musical talents whatsoever. I love singing, but I’m almost tone deaf. I tried learning guitar for few months and miserably failed. Music doesn’t go with me. Besides Volleyball, I also like to snowboard. My last slide have my selfies. I take so many pictures of myself whenever I’m bored. It’s my biggest hobby.

Raymond Huang [:D]

Posted by rh156139 in Uncategorized

With a crew-haircut, a scrawny-looking guy clad in a hoodie is a pretty typical image for an Asian. And if that was not enough, let’s top that off with a pair of glasses and put on the name tag, Raymond Huang.  I am more of what the 21st century called an avid gamer who is enthusiastic about the modern technology. This explains why I pursue to study computer science in Brooklyn Technical High School. In my spare time, I occupied myself mostly on computer games which people in general may regard me as a mindless slacker that shut himself from the outside world. The world of gaming can broadens one’s imagination. Speaking of games, I found myself drawn into Real Time Strategy (RTS), Role Playing Games (RPG), and First Person Shooter (FPS) such as Total Wars: Rome II, Skyrim, and Battlefield 4. I hate losing to people I know fairly well especially when they cross your path and abuse their bragging rights. So I make sure, I am above my close friends and family during competitive gaming.

Despite my devotion for gaming, I enjoy playing chess as well. I’m not obsess with this hobby but I had participated in some chess tournaments during middle school. I would face expert-chess players at a daily basis knowing the inevitable fate of my defeat is at hand but I still carry on till the last moment. It was a great experience in the end, and an opportunity to test my chess skills with others so that I can improve.

Also, I am a food junkie who likes to chow on street food such as hot dogs, pizzas, gyros, rice boxes and taste a variety of cultural cuisine. I dislike spicy food so most of Thai cuisine is out of the list.  I feel content whenever I eat to a full stomach that explains why I look forward to my lunch period every day. My love for food debatably goes in hand with the cooking skills of my daily meal. Although it is difficult to cook a decent meal, I did tackle down the beginner level such as instant ramen, omelet, and steaming fresh veggies. When it comes to more difficult dishes like preparing a raw chicken to be steam-ready, I surrender the chore to a more capable hand.

Here is a list of songs (listening to it right now)-

1. Linkin Park- In the End

2. Bruno Mars- The Lazy Song

3. Three Days Grace- The High Road

4. Jay Rock- Hoods Gonna Love It

5. Blake Lewis- Your Touch

6. Linkin Park- New Divide

7. Breaking Benjamin-So Cold

8. F(X)-Beautiful Stranger

9. Linkin Park-Burn it down

10. Eminem- Lose Yourself

Kenny Wang!

My name is Kenny Wang and I am currently a freshman at Baruch College. I have many interests such as playing basketball, playing ping-pong, playing piano, eating, and biking, but the interest that defines me the most is my hobby of handball. I picked up handball in 6th grade when my middle school friends started playing. At first, I found handball to be really tedious but as I played more, I discovered that there was more to handball than just getting the ball to the wall. There were skills such as cutting, whipping, positioning, diving, rallies, and lobs that needed to be mastered if someone wanted to be good at handball. One of the most challenging however, was learning how to use my weak-hand which quite honestly could not even return the ball to the wall when I first started playing. Furthermore, there was also a mental aspect to the game which was needed if someone wanted to beat their opponent. After years of playing, I won a few tournaments and placed in other tournaments as well. I also became the handball captain for my school and was the top player on my team for two straight years. Aside from handball, I also love to eat which could be seen from the pictures I have posted. I love trying new foods and just eating in general. There’s so much you could learn from eating a culture’s food. As a young child, I also loved legos and this is a picture of the hulk built out of legos when I went to Toy R us. I remember staying up late every night during the summer of 1st grade just building every kind of spaceship I could think of and crashing them together. These interests have definitely shaped me to be a competitive individual and I proudly say that it is what makes me who I am today.

Information about Zi Lee!

Posted by zl156860 in Uncategorized

My name is Zi and I’m proud to tell you guys that i was born in Malaysia. My journey from being a non-English speaker in 3rd grade to a freshman at Baruch College has been complicated and challenging. I still remember those days when I couldn’t understand what my teacher saying. Everybody treated me differently in good and bad ways. To me, it didn’t matter because I have always been confident and hard working. Like Charles Darwin’s theory, one must adapt to the environmental changes in order to survive in a society.  Soon, i started to get rid of my accent and spoke this language fluently.  From that day on, nobody dare  to criticize me again.

My interests are music, swimming, basketball, girls, and cars. I love listening to music. Everywhere i go, even if it’s a block away, I can never leave my house without my headphones. My primary sport was basketball. Ever since I suffered an injury in 8th grade and got dropped off the team, I started to focus on swimming. To this very day, I’m still disappointed at the fact my coach dropped me. I put up decent numbers in all categories almost in every game I started. Swimming was a sport my mom forced to focus on. At first, I liked it a lot because i felt so free when i was swimming in the pool. That feeling is inexplicable and enjoyable.  I had to quit the team to raise my GPA in high school. I’m not going to talk about girls and cars in this blog. It would make this blog post more than 500 words.  If any of you guys want to know, ask me in private 🙂

10 songs

1) Nas-One mic

2) Nas- Made you look

3) Jordin Sparks ft. Chris Brown- No Air

4) Jamie Foxx ft. Drake- Fall For Your Type

5) J. Cole- Lost Ones

6) Nicki Minaj ft. Drake- Moment 4 life

7) Usher- More

8) Ray J- One Wish

Kary(Si Qi) Huang

Posted by Kary Huang in Uncategorized

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1-LDUZd30oUgie7FVha3GfKtGSq8fDGu1amM_wi9vGQs/edit?usp=sharing

Hi everyone, my name is Kary and I’m proud to say that I was born in China and spent my wonderful childhood there. It was the best time of my life. I was into performing arts since I was young, and I still love singing so much. My friend and I published song covers on YouTube with the name HotAiSe and she burnt me a CD on my birthday last year, it was so sweet. In summer 2009, I volunteered at Light and Love Home and helped out street fairs, host the graduation ceremony and won the first place in a writing contest with my prose about poor and homeless African children. During my senior year in High School I worked as an after-school tutor(you know, there aren’t much job choices for High School students), I had huge headaches, I mean fun, with my students. I have to admit that when I quit the job I missed those little devils for a while.

I have to describe myself as a neither indrawn or outgoing person. I like many outdoor activities and sports such as swimming, badminton, tennis, volleyball, billiards, kayaking, archery, etc. I love eating, healthy and unhealthy food, but sadly I’m still underweight and I really don’t know if that is a good or bad thing. Yet the reason why I said I’m a little bit indrawn is because I write journal entries almost everyday and I feel more comfortable “talking” to my diary than to people, even my close friends. I’ve been doing this since the year I came to America which was 5 years ago. It helped me a lot at moments when I’m about to throw things or punch someone in the face. I’m joking, obviously I’m not that violent.

Yes you’re right, what you’re seeing in the 7th slide are five stinky feet put in front of me when I was making a birthday wish. Thanks a lot to my mischievous friends for adding some colorful candles. However, they’ve been there for many ups and downs in my life. They’re my most precious gifts. Without them I wouldn’t be who I am today.
