Seeing the documentary about meditation, it did not surprise me that it helped many students achieve better results in class. I have tried meditating in the past, and can verify from personal experience, that indeed, meditation is very helpful, both mentally and physically. It helps you find an internal balance and harmony. Physically it forces you to relax every single muscle in your body in order to achieve the needed state of relaxation. Mentally it allows you to clear your mind. It is a double shot of relaxation.

After you enter this state, you enter a dream and stop feeling your physical body. The senses are tremendously heightened and you can hear a the most detailed sounds, the lightest touch activates all nerves in the body, and the smell can reach you from afar. At first it is hard to truly cleanse your mind and relax your body. Sometimes I fell asleep doing it. As you practice it more and more, it becomes easier. It is as if you are in a sleep, completely relaxed, but you are aware of it, and control the situation of when you want to stop. Time starts to pass very rapidly and the bodily processes tremendously slow down.
After you come out of the state, you feel rejuvenated and revived, as if you had a nice long and deep sleep. Your mind is cleared and has a kind of a clean sleet to start from. Hence, watching the documentary, I did not find anything new that surprised me. It just provided yet another proof for the positive effects of meditation.
