SPEAK UP by Simbi Akanni

Speak up. Let your voice be heard.

Clear your throat, cough a bit.

Let your voice shine through your opaque lips.

Speak up, we cant hear you.

Whispering wouldn’t get you anywhere and no one can really HEAR YOU.

Let us know.

Speak up, let your voice be heard.

We don’t live in a world full of mind readers, YOU HAVE GOT TO SPEAK UP.

I know it’s hard, but do it anyway.

I know you’ve got it in there, take the risk.

….

Alright, Talk is cheap.

I’m yelling at you saying this yet I’m the quietest one in the room.

My outer voice is so loud but my inner voice is non existent.

I guess I’m afraid that people wouldn’t “understand” me.

If I were to really let you in on how I was feeling I doubt anyone would be able to handle it.

You’ll come in soon; one at a time, i’m delicate.

So I lied, don’t speak up. It’s not that easy. Wait till you’re comfortable.

For all we know, that time may never come.

And if it does, teach me your ways. Please.
