I am pretty confident that most, if not all, the students can relate to this gif. It is accurate, at least during my time so far in Baruch.

I know that every single student, at some point, has been to a class that is so boring that you either have to fall asleep or find something interesting to do.

Most of us would decide to go with electronics, because the class that are boring generally allows them anyways.

The one that falls asleep will wake up to their electronics regardless.

I’m the same, in that I am one of those students that either sleeps or keeps their eyes on their smartphones.

We all have the urge to go on the social media to keep refreshing for new status updates and new posts. We all love to just surf the web for random picture and watch videos of cute cats and dogs (reddit.com/r/aww,  anyone?)

That is generally when you feel you learned nothing in class. We keep taking our education for granted. We feel that there are better place to be, or better things to do during the time that we are wasting sitting in the class looking at our phones. But I would bet, not literally of course, that most of us would keep our phone out regardless.

Our sociology professor, for example, can be boring with all that pause and uncertainly when he talks. Everyone is on staring at their laptop and tablet , texting on smartphone or taking a nap. No body replies to the professor and that creates an awkward silence every time. then somebody just has to raise their hand to speak up and hope they would match the topic and make sense.

I understand this doesn’t apply just to Baruch lectures, but to all classes from middle to university. but we might want to control our urge to get distracted by our phones and tablets just sometimes… you know, just  to get some of that addiction off.

I totally agree with you that electroic can be a huge distraction for us. When I am bored, the first thing I do is take out my phone and check for any new posts. Because I know that I can’t live without my phone, it’s impossible for me to turn it off…

I also believe that electronics are a huge distraction even more so in classes where the professor doesnt care or if the classes are too big to care. Then in those classes i would sometime just text friends are look at memes and almost anything that can be done on a phone. I know that this isnt a good thing to do and should be stopped but it isnt taht easy.

yea, you are right. sometimes even i know i will not use my phone, but i still take my phone out of my pocket and push the home buttom and then put it back. and i get no information from the phone, i don’t know the time and i don’t know the date. this always makes me look like an idiot.
