Career blog post #3 – Raymond Wu

For my career blog post, I attended a Bloomberg workshop at the trading floor in the library. It was an introduction to Bloomberg’s Professional Services which  provides real time and financial data. This is used for stock trading. Knowing how a public company is currently doing at the time and how it might do in the future.

Throughout the workshop, I learned many new things. It was more to it than I originally thought. There is so many things that you can get into. Like the different types of investments and tools there are on the site. They offer things like the Bloomberg terminal, Bloomberg trade book, execution and order management, data and content, financial data management and integration and distribution. Personally I find trading and equity investment very interesting and this provided a first real good insight into what it is. I do some trading on my free time as a hobby and know some of the basic indicators to use when trading. From time to time, I would end up on the Bloomberg site because it provides useful information. Attending this event helped me learn more about it and the process that goes into researching public companies.

I went back home and looked at the site myself. I could not finish looking through everything but I will continue to do my own research and try to learn as much as I can. This workshop was a great opportunity for me because it showed how you can succeed beyond the classroom.

Academic Blog Post #2- Raymond Wu

I choose to go to a museum as my academic activity which happens to be the American Museum of Natural History located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The last time I visited this museum was back in elementary school and kind of forgot how it looked like. The only really memorable thing I could remember from back then was eating lunch under the huge blue whale in the Irma and Paul Milstein Family Hall of Ocean Life.

Now visiting the museum, you get to understand and appreciate it a lot more. The exhibit that I would like to focus on is the Rose Center for Earth and Science. I am personally fascinated by space. It is just so mysterious and unknown still. There is a lot about the universe that we do not know. While walking up the Harriet and Robert Heibrunn Cosmic Pathway, you get to see the timeline of the universe. All thirteen billion years of it. It showed all the major events of the universe, such as the formation of the Milky Way, first life on earth and age of the dinosaurs. Another thing that I really wanted to see was the scales of the universe. It provided a better understanding of how big everything is relative to each other. From subatomic particles to some of the largest objects.

Of course there were many other exhibits at the museum and I looked at them all. Another exhibit I would like to give a mention to is the fossil hall. It was just fascinating to think about how these creatures once roamed the earth and how creatures from modern times developed from them. Overall, I would recommend anybody to come to this museum if you are in the area, it is suitable of all ages, I had a really great time there.

Student Life Post #1- Raymond Wu

As my first student life activity, I decided to attend a DSP session (Delta Sigma PI) after my friend told me that she was going to go later today. I walked in with my friend and was met by some familiar faces. Many of my friends were there chatting and eating the pizza that was provided. Would had ate a slice myself if I didn’t just have Thai food. As many of you know, DSP is a business frat. It’s goal is to bring professionalism and closeness to Baruch students. I think this is an amazing goal because in a city college where everyone just goes to school and then goes back home, this allows you to form closer bonds with each other. This session was a new working session to meet your brothers. One of the things I like about this frat is the fact that it is co-ed. Everyone there was also chill and friendly towards each other. I would definitely recommend you guys to check it out if you are interested in business. I believe that one of the most important things in business is connections and this is a great way to start forming those connections. During the session, I learned the history of the frat and what it represents. It was originally created by four people who wanted to prepare others for their careers.

I learned a lot during the session and had a wonderful time with everyone there. It was informative and interesting. I think there is a lot of value you can get out of it by joining. Personally, as someone whose major is not business but a minor, I would still consider joining it by pledging because of today’s session. It gave me new insight on what Delta Sigma PI is and how it works.
